BELLE VUE, Tortola, VI – Basketball games have allegedly been temporarily suspended until further notice following a fight between two teams at the Belle Vue Gym and Community Centre on Friday, December 13, 2013.

Several persons were reportedly injured during the fracas which occurred between teams from Sea Cows Bay and Belle Vue in the Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines Xmas League.

The fight reportedly began after one player received a foul call that he was upset about. The person that was fouled then approached the other player and other players later joined in.

According to a source, the lights at the gym were immediately shut off once the fight began but it was clear that several injuries were caused as a result of the fight.

Sixth District Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines could not be reached for comment up to post time but it was alleged that her son was injured during the fracas.

It is unclear what punishment, if any, will be meted out to the offending teams or players.

A final decision was expected to be made yesterday, December 18, 2013 on the way forward following the fight. Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force reportedly arrived at the scene after the teams had cleared off.

When contacted however, Police Information Officer Ms Diane Drayton told this news site “[I] haven’t seen a fight at the gym among the reports.”

The fights started and to get it broke up they turn off the lights and it worked for everyone scattered. It's a shame tho for just after that big party it had up there the Saturday night before this is all they could do, fight over a call on a game in the first quarter. I was vex for it would have been a good game. I would not blame the rep if she cancel the whole thing. Teach them a lesson.

Just HUSH!! They right take off the lights. If those lights had remain on, the mess would have gotten worst. For your info, it's the Sea Cows Bay Clan who started the fight, not Belle Vue. To SMH: you go to save the seed because you want to. If you really need to use Belle Vue Gym just got to the people who runs it "Recreation Trust" or Mr. Juggy Harrigan.

Was a foolish idea from the start. I understand u want to give them something but the handout mentality is what killing the young ppl ambition esp in that district b/c they are the most aggressive beggars on tola.

No tournament with a cash prize like that will result in a good ending. They're going to fight over the $$$. Bad idea to dangle the carrot infront them like that. Better just give them $$$ all the cash prize has done is divide them.
