ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) is delighted to celebrate local Captains Jonese Samuel, D’Andra Lewis, and Rochelle Lawrence. On Wednesday, 17th January 2024, the three captains were invited onboard Celebrity Ascent by Staff Captain Maria Gotor for lunch and a ship tour while it was at the Cruise Pier.

The luncheon provided a platform for the BVI captains and Staff Captain Maria Gotor and Chief Officer Eva Pavlou to share inspirational stories and insights.

The cross-cultural exchange of maritime knowledge and experiences highlighted parallels in their professional journeys, and the need for equal treatment and representation in the maritime industry. This shared camaraderie not only enriched the luncheon but also contributed to a collective narrative of female excellence in maritime.

The subsequent tour of the bridge allowed the captains to explore the intricate navigation systems, cutting-edge technology, and operational facets of the bridge, and gain a firsthand understanding of the maritime innovations employed by Celebrity Ascent.

In fostering interactions like these, the BVI Ports Authority underscores the critical importance of collaborative engagements for captains and aspiring leaders in the maritime community of the British Virgin Islands. Such exchanges serve as invaluable platforms for knowledge sharing, mentorship, and the cultivation of a supportive network.

This gathering aboard the Celebrity Ascent, made possible through the collaborative efforts of ship agent Romasco Group and the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry, highlights the commitment to advancing maritime excellence. Through these concerted efforts, we collectively reinforce a commitment to the empowerment and success of maritime professionals within our community.
