Federation to host 14th Jason Bally Memorial Road Race
The Race, which the Federation will start at 7.00 am has a Registration from 5pm on Saturday just before the Service for Bally at Domino’s Gas Station in Sea Cow’s Bay, which is also open to the Public.
The 74.4-mile road race on Tortola's south coast, is held in memory of slain Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Jason Bally, who was gunned down in 1999 in Sea Cows Bay in the vicinity of the Ellis Thomas Downs. Bally's case hasn't been solved.
The race will start at West End Police Station, turn at Frenchman Cay Junction, travel east to turn by Pleasant Valley junction and then back to the start finish to complete one lap or 10.4 miles. Category A will do 7 laps or 72.8 miles, Category B and ladies 4 laps or 41.6 miles, Juniors and MT Bikes 2 laps or 20.8 miles, fun novice 1 lap.
There will be a water stop at the Frenchman Cay junction after the first lap and also refreshments at the race’s conclusion, which will also see prizes be awarded to all Categories and also the 2014 Men’s and Women’s Road Race Champion’s will be declared.
After a second-place finish in 2012, St. Croix's Mark Defour climbed to the top of the pile for the first time to win the 13th Jason Bally Memorial, out-dueling veteran Phillipe Leroy in a sprint finish.
Defour's Cruzan teammate Comber "Ras" Greaux out-sprinted the VI's Gareth Thomas to place third.
