ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Nearly a month after he was fatally stabbed allegedly by his half brother, Tishawn “Rufus” Bertin Henley was laid to rest on December 1, 2012 following viewing and funeral service at New Life Baptist Church, Duff’s Bottom where the local media was disallowed.

Henley was allegedly knifed to death following an altercation with his half brother sometime around 5:30 P.M. on November 6, 2012 at George’s North Side. The alleged perpetrator Michael Jack, 24, has since been charged with murder and taken to court where he was remanded until December 14, 2012.

Henley worked at the Department of Information Technology up to the time of his death. The Department in its tribute to its fallen colleague said Tishawn could be called upon to assist with any project and was always willing to assist and give a helping hand.

“Where other staff members didn’t want to work on weekends, Tishawn worked in providing community outreach at the local Track and Field Competition, Horse Racing, Volleyball and he even went as far as attending local pageants to provide technical support and being called in the event of hardware failures. These things he did without hesitation knowing that he could not be compensated monetarily.”

Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith said Tishawn was known to be a hard worker who was committed to personal development. He also said Tishawn was always willing to go the extra mile to get his work done as he understood the importance of technology to the work of Government.

“Those of whom he served remember his talented ability to troubleshoot their computer systems. His co-workers remember his outgoing, friendly personality. Today I remember him as a member of my team: DoIT falls under my remit as Minister of Finance.”

Deputy Governor V. Inez Archibald said Tishawn worked at the Department of Information Technology for the last seven years, and enjoyed fixing other pubic officer’s computers. She noted that Tishawn’s mother is also a public officer and has been for the last twenty-five years. “The Department of Information has lost a happy warrior, a competent officer; a team player…The Public Service of the Virgin Islands must cope with the shocking death of one of its own.”

Minister of Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton said “we continue to be confused by events such as Tishawn’s death and there remain so many unanswered questions. We may never understand these events, but we can understand that Jehovah loves us and will comfort us.”

Speaker of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands Hon. Ingrid A. Moses-Scatliffe offered words of encouragement to Tishawn’s grieving mother, Ms Lorna Choucoutou, who is presently assigned to the House of Assembly, his father Mr. Odaine Henley, their extended family, friends and colleagues. “Please be assured that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of bereavement.”

Tributes were also given by 5th District Representative Hon. Delores Christopher, 6th District Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, who said Tishawn was her God son and Clerk of the House of Assembly Phyllis Evans as well as a number of relatives and friends.

Tishawn “Rufus” Bertin Henley was buried at the Cane Garden Bay Cemetery.

He had died of a single stab wound to the chest, according to what was revealed in the Magistrate's Court on November 8, 2012 when his half-brother Michael Jack made his first appearance.

The court heard that prior to the alleged stabbing both men were engaged in a "heated argument" over a car antenna.

The Crown's case was presented by Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe while Jack was represented by Stephen Daniels.

hate to say it but every positive thing they said here was mostly lies, what else can u say about someone who has passed anyway. cant come on here and blast him as he is no longer here to speak for him self...as he usually did in the most loud and disrespectful way....RIP ruff...u weren't what they portrayed you to be here but you were still my boy!

True or not, did you really had to say that??? Isn't that something to keep to yourself at a time like this??Wow!!! Heartless...

Put yourself in the parent's shoes, would you have love to read what you just wrote after burying your loved-one?? Remember, if you live in a glass house, don't throw stones. Today for Lorna's son, tomorrow might be your child. But then again, I refuse to believe you have any children, for you would have thought twice before making such a comment.

The truth is always inconvenient my friend, i will try my utmost to ensure that i instill in my children values that ensure they live a life worthy of praise so that when they pass there will be no such argument attributed to the details of their tenure in this realm. If these values don't take as they often do then who am i to turn a blind eye to the consequences of their behavior and ask that society do the same. His parents knew just what he was and loved him the same, I do not have to hold my tongue and read this idiocy pretending it to be his reality when i know different! Ruff was trouble and you had to know when n where to feed him with a long spoon...he did not deserve to die and for that i am sorry, i even alluded to my understanding the purpose of these lies (who wants to tell the nasty truth about someone who has lost their life), but i do not have to pretend that he wasn't who he was to appease anyone....those who loved ruff knew what he was and loved him despite! These falsehoods are here printed for ppl like you, who would rather a sweet lie over the ugly truth...it comfort you some how...i get it!

As eloquent as you sound, it is sad to observed that you're still clueless. Being a parent like you, I get that sugar-coating situations and circumstances doesn't help anyone. However, what was your motive behind you revealing the "nasty truth" and how does it profit you or anyone for that matter?
Because you think that you are a model parent, do you think that that exempts you from experiencing what TeShawn's parents just experienced. Please be reminded that we have pastors, bishops, holy men and women of God who are wondering, What on earth went wrong with my child, but if they remain steadfast in prayer, they are assured that although thier child's behavior does not line up with what they had been taught they know that by the grace and promise of God, their child will not remained detached (depart) from the teachings they gave them. The devil's job is to steal, kill and destroy you, me, our children and our children's children. We are all targeted by him in one way or another.

If you were one of the hypocrites who attended his funeral showing sympathy to the family, while anxious to get home and blog non-sense behind there backs, you would realized that in many parts of the booklet, TeShawn was commended for stepping on the path of change. Only people who realize their imperfection can step in that direction (and it takes time, it doesn't happen overnight). You can lead a cow to the well but you cant force him to drink until he's good and ready to drink on his own. It appeared TeShawn was ready to drink, but it came a little too late. I'm sure Lorna and other family members put in the same effort into their children as you put in with yours, if not more. Hope you are never that unfortunate with your children or grandchildren.

So if you would take some time to step off your self-righteous pedestal, be humble enough to at least relize that you arent the only one out there instilling values in your children. Other people, including Lorna is one of those people who did exactly what you claim you're doing. In closing, be not so ignorant to think that death between siblings is ALWAYS a result of an argument.
You don't have to appease me at all, I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm neither family or close friend, just a parent who is not so naive into thinking that because i did right by my children, they can't never end up in a situation like this. As parents we need to acknowledge that raising children in this age is a challenge and rather than being self-righteous and judgemental, we need to be empathetic towards each other for we allllll live in the same glass house.

@hmm, after re-reading your first blog, you definitely are one of the hypocrites who attended his funeral, with the absolute gall to call him "my boy" after blogging nonsense and contradicting yourself saying, "can't come on here and blast him as he is no longer here to speak for him self"

      HYPOCRITE TO THE 100th degree
