LONG BUSH, Tortola, VI- It was more than just a back-to-school giveaway but a wholesome programme for the children when the Fourth District Back to School Fair was held at the Bandstand in Long Bush on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

The initiative, led by Fourth District Representative and Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith, saw a number of speakers and presenters sharing their knowledge with the children on health and academic issues.

Additionally, the event received the support of I Support Positive Youths (ISPY) led by Allington O. Creque aka ‘Gumption’.

“What a fantastic turnout at our Fourth District’s Back to School Fair! Registrations filled up faster than ever this year, with residents eager to secure their spots early. A big shoutout to all the eager participants!” Hon Hodge-Smith commented on a social media post on September 5, 2024.

Gratitude

Hon Hodge-Smith expressed appreciation to Mrs Phillipa Barry for her insightful talk on Healthy Eating; Mr H. D. Doonauth for sharing valuable tips on achieving Academic Success; Nurse Lizia Hodge and Nurse Natasha Henry-Cains for their Audiological expertise; and Dr Bell and Dr Parson for shedding light on the importance of dental hygiene.

“A special mention to Mr Gumption for his generosity in participating and donating some of his very own ISPY back-to-school supplies. Your support is truly appreciated!

“Thank you to everyone who made this event a huge success! Here's to a fantastic school year ahead!” Hon Hodge-Smith stated.

Public schools in the Virgin Islands reopen on Monday, September 9, 2024.
