ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A fundraiser box setup for ex-Premier Andrew A. Fahie has already sparked controversy according to organizer Ms Patsy C. Lake, however, the popular businesswoman said that will not deter her from doing what she can to help a family member.

Mr Fahie was arrested in Miami on April 28, 2022, and slapped with drug and money laundering conspiracy charges among others, by US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and is expected to go on trial by early 2024.

Ms Lake said while persons can donate from Monday, October 16 - November 16, 2023, individuals have already started to show up with monies for the embattled ex-premier ahead of the official start date, “People have been asking me to put it here for some time so people can contribute,” she told Virgin Islands News Online (VINo) while adding, “it done stared being controversial’.

Despite the controversy, Ms Lake said one of the reasons she decided to start the fundraiser, is because she is also a relative of Fahie and that throughout his run in politics, the former District 1 representative helped many.

“I ain’t got nothing to do with who wants to be controversial, they crucify Jesus Christ, who’s me? he’s my family,” she said.

Fahie can use funds for whatever - Ms Lake

She added that the box will open from October 16-November 16, 2023, and the funds will be cleared daily for whatever expenses Mr Fahie wants to use it for, “We just want to give to him in his time of need, because he helped others when he was in a position to do so… I am not here to judge,” Ms Lake said.

She added, “We have gotten a lot of positive side; people came already to contribute but I tell them no, it's not starting until next week.”

Ms Lake further said has not reached out to Fahie about the donations however hopes he will be surprised at the move while adding that persons wanting to make donations via cheque and wire can make contact with Albion Hedge aka ‘Bobby”.

The box will located at the On-Stop Mall and will be opened from October 16, 2023, the day earmarked as Heroes & Foreparents Day, a national holiday in the VI.

How about a fundraising box for the families and victims of gun and drug violence instead.

Foy fatefuls should just encourage him to take a plea deal get the minimum and stop wasting his and every one elses time and money, because no amount of money will make him not guilty.I can understand they are concerned about Britain actions if he plead guilty..To me a trial will be more damaging.

It will come a time when you fahie haters and others will realize the many good moves and initiatives he did to help keep our BVI from sinking and our people from dying during the worse pandemic in the last 100yrs with limited resources and help. Just give time a chance.

What is clear is the Governor and UK informed the BVI they were on their own with covid as their resources and funds were needed to take care of only their UK people. They thought fahie would have failed but he multiplied what he had to avoid a major economic and social catastrophy. They were so shame of what they done so to look good they rushed in vaccines and then launched during the heart of Covid a prearranged COI set up to intentionally make all his efforts look corrupt and bad but the people now realizing differently. Then they set up a plot in a way to try to make their hands look clean. God sits high but he looks low. He will balance out everything in due season no matter how powerful any of us think we are.

I am not from a wealthy family but through Fahie I got a scholarship to study away. I got my Bachelors and now my masters. I am now doing well in the work world. Originally the scholarship board turn me down but fahie insisted I need to go to school now. He was relentless in his efforts and I got the scholarship. I know at least 20 other young people at that time he did the same for no matter who they were or what family they were from or what political party they supported. He believes in his people. He is a good man. I wish him the best. Many people who could not afford it got to college because of him. I take this time to say thank you.

A person could do what appears to be good and STILL be:

        1. A murderer / serial killer
        2. A thief
        3. A rapist
        4. A drug dealer/pusher
        5. A terrorist

You think criminals don’t help who they want to help so YOU HAVE NO POINT!!!!

You got a bachelors and a masters out of the BVI tax payers pocket? Well aren't you the lucky one. On average normal college recipients do not get to have both degrees fully funded by the government. So if I were you I would keep quiet. While you and the twenty others were getting a free ride others were not. He helped you because he needed your family in the VIP pocket. Oh wait...you are probably a cousin of his anyway!!

That is beside the point. Did he us his own money to send you all to study, or was it tax payers money? Ask the families who lost their loved ones via gun violence how they felt when they heard about his alleged involvement in the cocaine/drug run. Remember drugs and gun violence are like a marriage, one directly leads to the other. And consider the fact that he said that was not his first rodeo. How can we close our eyes and turn the other cheek just because he used tax payers money to give deserving citizens a scholarship? We are a classless breed of indigenous virgin islanders!

What I can say is when I was fortunate to attend HLSCC largely because of knowing I could have tagged on to Hon. Fahie's 1st District bus service nightly from HLSCC headed straight to the 1st district. It was loaded with many 1st district young people going home from classes at HLSCC and myself and others from Sea Cow's Bay use to squeeze on because we had no ride to get home. This was a tremendous help to us ALL. Hundreds of us benefited from this initiative for years. He told the bus driver once it has room then leave no one behind even if they were not students from his district. The man was truly innovative and caring. He wanted the best for his people and all of BVI.

I don't trust that woman! I have lost all respect for her. She may be my family also, but doesn't change her terrible demeanor at all.

He comes from a mother and is not a nut without a shell. I am full NDP Supporter but one who finally got my belongers from the Fast Track initiative Fahie had the guts to do. He took alot of criticism for it and still taking but he did the right thing as many of us in the 1500 people who received the status have been living and contributing to the BVI for years. All my children are born in BVI and they were keep asking mammy when will they respond to you as you applying for years upon years. If Fahie did not do the fast track initiative then NONE of the 1500 people would have seen the light of day any time soon. Fahie is in my Prayers. God is looking over him because he has a heart of gold and a heart for the people and a heart of God. He will rise again.

People who did not sacrifice and build like you did walked in and walked out. A lot of things that should not have been overlooked under any certain circumstances were, because he needed to make sure he had enough people in the VIP pocket TO VOTE for them. Stop acting like you dont know what is happening here. Continue to keep him in your prayers.

I never said I was 'clean'. All of US have sinned in one way or another, including YOU. I might not have been trying to move crates of drugs through the BVI destroying and corrupting the lives of sooooo many. Nor was I sitting quiet while I watched family after family lower loved ones into early graves. Sometimes being on the inside of something gives you a different view of things. I pray you never get a call one day where the voice on the other end has the power to ruin you, your family, and all you have ever worked for if you don't bat for their team. You might surprise yourself.....

I live in East End & my family & I will be contributing. I remember when things were not good with my family and I and everyone was ignoring us. I reluctantly went to see fahie. He knew I don't support him but he listen to me & told me my children should not suffer and be going hungry. I told him clearly I don't back him nor his party politically. He smiled & said God said to love everyone so he has to love me with the love of God. I really thought he was bluffing me. But to my surprise a week later he organized meaningful help for my family & I. He even helped me & one of my daughters to get a job. He called us weekly to encourage us. Things started to look up for us after a couple of months. I can never forget this man's kindness because he did not have to. With tears in my eyes I say God bless him. He will never want. My family & I do not have much but we will give what we can to help a true leader and a real pure hearted lover of mankind.

We are an ill society and the UK did not do that to us. ALL of us are to blame in one way or another for the state of this place, from the litter on the streets to the corruption in the government. We did it, not the UK. How many things have we witnessed being done wrong, and yet some of us say nothing and do nothing. Andrew wheeled and dealed to make sure his premier seat was safe, not because he had compassion.

Let us be fair that this is larger than anyone of us think or are seeing so do not fool ourselves. Some of you may not agree but if Fahie did not handle covid how he did then things would have been worse in BVI as hundreds and may be thousands would now be dead. The economy would be dead. More people would have loss their homes to the banks. It is obvious while he was trying to keep us alive during Covid there were those plotting to try to organize his demise and make it look like their hands are clean. The majority of the money spent during COVID by the government was spent at businesses they owned or had shares in, or it was a friend or family member. I really do not see what was done during covid being analyzed fairly. The Governor and his gang have an agenda because the truth be told no government handled covid well and could not use the regular policies to assist as there was no play book. BVI did better than most. Plenty people across the board received assistance and it was not because of politics.

The plans and initiative that man came up with, developed and implemented to save the territory and people during covid was innovative and he must be given credit. Any assessment of his performance cannot be judged based on regular policies as the BVI & world were not in regular times. Imagine he worked with all supermarkets to feed the Territory while we were locked down. He does not get enough credit but this is by design because the plot was already in place.

I am glad he worked with the RDA during covid to get his government to build the new buildings at the high school to take our children and teachers out of that moldy building where everyone was getting sick. The man tried to help from Anegada to Jost Van Dykes during the worse pandemic in 100 years. Ungratefulness is worse than witchcraft.

What he need money for? If he plead guilty or not guilty he’s gonna serve time in prison and he doesn’t need money there. He wouldn’t go hungry, Uncle Sam will feed him.
He need to plead guilty and not waste the Court’s time and his Lawyer fees should reduce.
Word to the Wise, “Always plan your Defense before u commit an Offense and always have money put aside for Lawyer fees, Bail and Fines so u don’t be a pain in the Ass to anyone.”

What is shameful is to know how the colonial devils used a hit man to come to the land and try to take out the man one way or another then use another place to take the front role to make it look like them. It is shameful to know what the system would do by doing wrong claiming they are trying to get things right. Wrong is wrong no matter who does it or what is done.

I will always pray and support him and he did not give me anything more than respect and solid representation. He spoke and respected everyone no matter their status quo he treated all with the same respect. He did not sell out his people. He fought for them and their rights.
