Exposed sewage situation at Greenland to be remedied – Scatliffe-Leonard

A festering pothole that has been constantly oozing raw sewage for several years, attacking the sensory nerves of passers by on a road leading to the Lambert Bay Beach area has been promised attention by Acting Director of the Water and Sewerage Department, Mrs Perline Scatliffe-Leonard.
Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard indicated that persons from the Department had no prior knowledge of the situation after a source indicated that reports had been made on several occasions over the last few years about the breach.
She noted that there were no sewerage connections in the area and suggested that it may be a private connection but said she would have engineers check on the issue to remedy the situation.
“I know we don’t have any sewerage lines run up there, so it would probably have to be maybe private property… something happened with a private property somewhere,” the Acting Director said.
This news site observed several vehicles splashing raw sewage from the pothole as they passed the area. The source indicated that unsuspecting persons are sometimes splashed by approaching drivers with the raw sewage emanating from the pothole if the area is not approached with caution.
In addition to this, raw sewage from properties in the area has been flowing along the roadside for over a decade, according to the source.
The Acting Director stated, “the only place we collect sewage stuff from is in Road Town [and] the Road Town area surroundings; we don’t have any accounts up there on sewage.”
The issue was also considered troubling given the fact that the roadway is one of several routes often used to take tourists to a popular resort nearby.
