Adams, a father of two, said he received a lot of demand for a video after releasing the song last year. He explained that the issue of domestic violence is a ‘hush-hush’ topic in the community and instead of making the video about an actual superhero flying around, he instead chose to focus on this important social topic. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Acclaimed local R&B singer, Kirk J. Adams said it was no coincidence that after months of hard work the video for his domestic violence themed track, SuperHero Love, was finally completed this month.

In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, the singer and songwriter said the content of the video reflected the issue of domestic violence which is observed in October of each year.

The song is the seventh of sixteen tracks from the artist’s ‘This Love Thing’ album released last year. The video, which is the second to feature the artist recently, was released on Youtube on October 28, 2013.

The over five-minute video narrates the story of a girl who is constantly being abused by her partner and refuses the help of her friend until the very end. The video ends with a simple message to abused persons: ‘suffer not in silence…’

Dauna George and Marcus Leggette star in the video and are featured as a couple involved in an abusive relationship. The video was shot predominantly at Frenchman’s Cay Resort and was directed by Philip Richards of V-Islander Media.

Adams, a father of two, said he received a lot of demand for a video after releasing the song last year. He explained that the issue of domestic violence is a ‘hush-hush’ topic in the community and instead of making the video about an actual superhero flying around, he instead chose to focus on this important social topic. He was also in high praise of the team that contributed to the video.

“We tried to make it something that people who were going through it might be encouraged to do the right thing, or get help,” the Harney’s employee said.

Kirk grew up as a member of various school and church choirs and became a regular participant in local pageant shows and talent competitions around the territory. The artist said he has been singing for as long as he can remember and described his singing as a glorified hobby for now but noted that he would love to take it to a higher level in the future. He has now been recording music for the past four years.

With regard to the video, he said since its release there has been a lot of positive responses and encouragement with many persons on Facebook even saying how much the message has appealed to them.

The Chalwell resident added that the many responses he received stating that the video has touched persons, is very much ‘mission accomplished’ to him but he will continue to try and promote the message and video with the hope of increasing its reach and ultimately create further awareness of the issue of domestic violence.

Excellent stuff Kirk. Keep it up. You and many BVI artists continue to display worldwide talent. In light of this, can we look into replacing the term "Local Artist" with "BVI Artist"? No where else in the world refers to their hometownn artists as "local", for the mere fact that if they are signed and make it big, they are already identified as a BVI Artist. We most push BVI ambassadorship through our creative arts.
