VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The Ninth District Back to School events on Anegada & Virgin Gorda have been hailed a success, with a good turnout of persons on both islands on Saturday, September 4, 2021.

The programme started with a walk/run which was well supported on both islands and continued with a voucher distribution as well as a chicken soup treat.

Voucher distribution

The vouchers were for hair care for boys and girls, food supplies and school supplies.

The walk/run on Anegada started at 6:00 am at Claudia Creque Educational Centre and proceeded to the S. Vanessa Faulkner Botanical Garden and returned for the finish.

The distribution of vouchers and chicken and mutton soup was done at the Butterfly Kisses Sports Bar and café.

Some 50 took part in walk/run on VG

On Virgin Gorda, the walk/run started at Cunny’s in North Sound and ended at Saucez Restaurant in Spanish Town. Some 50 persons took part in the walk/run on Virgin Gorda.

The distribution of vouchers and soup was done at the Ninth District Office.

“Big shout out to all who came out and walked this morning, especially the school children. Our health is our wealth,” Ninth District Representative Hon Vincent O. Wheatley, who is also the Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, stated on his Facebook page on September 4, 2021.

“Both islands saw excellent turnouts with many households receiving help,” Hon Wheatley commented to our newsroom.

Sponsors of the events included Hon Wheatley, the At Large Representatives, Rotary Club of Tortola and Rotary Club of Central Tortola.

So giving out school supplies is going to guarantee him being elected back in office? Giving out school
Supplies is a good thing to help the children but he is not guaranteed a seat back in office based on that. I could understand if he had develop a school lunch program IE.. breakfast and lunch in the 9th district for the school year.

When you are talking about vote you have to weigh the checks and balances. What do you consider for one to be a good leader. When we as a people stop looking at what we can get and learn to give of our own self to enhance and give back to our community then and only then we are on our way to victory. It's not what we can get but what we (all of us) can give to our country. Vote for a leader with country at heart not being selfish but selfless. Integrity counts not dressing up, education counts not face value, being a people's person not popularity. Love for people and country not greed and selfishness. Go getters and selfishness are the people we need. So dont look at only what you can see there are lots that go on behind the scenes. As leaders you don't talk all.

I urge all of us to hold up the hands of our present leaders they need us as well as we need them it's a two way street. They may faulter hear and there but the road in leadership is not straight and easy.

As a people the question is what do you and I have to give to push this territory forward. Now is the time to take some good introspection and be honest to ourselves.
In conclusion the present 9th district minister will be your next minister again regardless to how you feel because God have the final say. Mark my words as long as he have breathe he will reign for another term. Others may go but he will stand watch it unfold.
