Ex-legislator Mark H. Vanterpool blasts Skelton-Cline over erroneous statements!
Mr Skelton-Cline is alleged to have made a number of politically erroneous statements on his show, including claiming that former legislator and prominent businessman Mr Mark H. Vanteprool was forming a new political party.
He further stated that if Mr Vanterpool is starting a political party, he “suspect he will take his sister”, the current Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development, Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE (AL), with him.
However, Mr Vanterpool went on ZBVI Radio moments after to say this was not the case. He said his sister, Hon Smith, continues to do her work, and she is “not joining any party with him”.
The businessman stated that Mr Skelton-Cline's remarks were irresponsible and that there is no truth to her joining him.
Mr Vanterpool noted that he continues to support the Government of the day, and asked that Mr Skelton-Cline be more responsible in his commentary and verify his statements.
The former legislator also noted that he was “very annoyed with what was said by Mr Skelton-Cline” because “it is not true”.
NDP is dead; All members gone- Skelton-Cline
Meanwhile, Mr Skelton-Cline said that the National Democratic Party (NDP) is dead. He noted that the issue is leadership, and Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) cannot lead the group into a successful election. “The country will not accept the leadership of the member for the Eighth [District], we might as well keep the current government," he opined.
The talk show host said the best hope for the NDP was for Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) to be the leader or someone like him, or else there is no hope for the NDP in the next general elections.
He said, “All the members are gone, and only about two are left; the others you can’t find”.
Mr Skelton-Cline said starting a new political party will cost about 2 million dollars, so persons must stop following the people on the notion of a new group.
The ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP) of Premier and Chairman Dr Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) seems to be the only stable party in recent times, according to other social commentators, and has the best chances of winning again in 2027.

What appears to be unfolding now is an attempt to sow doubt in the mind of the Premier—to question the loyalty of Hon. Lorna Smith precisely because the strength of the VIP has become so evident. That is a familiar political tactic, but it should not distract from performance or principle. The Premier should stand firm. Hon. Smith has proven herself to be an effective legislator and a valuable member of the team.
And if, at some future point, Action Man were to form a political movement of his own, it would represent a serious and credible alternative—not because of division, but because of quality. He would attract new, competent, and capable candidates, much as the VIP did in 2018.
At this point, it doesn’t matter how many people cross the floor, what matters will be the list of accomplishments they set out to accomplish. Everyone of then are greedy.
