ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Information reaching our newsroom is that former speaker of the House of Assembly (HoA) under the now-ousted National Democratic Party (NDP) government Ingrid A. Moses will be contesting the 2023 General Elections in the Virgin Islands.

Moses has reportedly started house-to-house visits!

Moses, 52, has reportedly begun to do house-to-house visits to solicit support for her candidacy on the NDP slate.

Reports coming in from the East End area are that Moses, a lawyer, has been accompanied on her visits by Opposition Leader and NDP Member Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), who has been introducing Ms Moses as an NDP candidate.

Our newsroom reached out to Hon Penn for confirmation on the reports; however, the third-term legislator did not respond to our requests.

‘Nothing to disclose at this time’- Moses

Moses only told our newsroom, “I have nothing to disclose at this time.”

It is yet unclear whether Moses will be contesting At Large or District; however, in 2018, during the campaign for the February 25, 2019 elections, the still serving speaker was announced by the NDP and the media as an At Large Candidate.

Many residents, civil society, and the media had expressed that it was a conflict of interest for Moses to still be presiding over the HoA as a political candidate.

In the end, she was not selected by the NDP to contest on their slate.

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) would go on to sweep the 4 At Large seats.

Who will lead NDP into 2023 elections?

Meanwhile, Hon Penn has been appearing in public as the leader of the NDP; however, it remains unclear who is the official leader, given the former Chairman, Mr Myron V. Walwyn resigned following his heavy defeat at the polls in 2019 and, according to sources, there has not been another internal election to choose a new leader.

Hon Penn has stated publicly he is ready to be the next Premier of the Virgin Islands.

There are reports that there is division in the party as to who should lead the NDP into the next general elections.

I was wondering when you were going to make your announcement. I think you should run for the Premier position and Marlon should be your deputy Premier. You can do it. It is time for the BVI to elect a female leader.

I agree with your comment, she should go for it, never let the media post such a photo it did not represent a serious demeanor. Ask the media to replace the photo. And know you will get my vote.

You are sounding so damn rural and stupid. There is nothing wrong with the photo. What should she look like? A stone faced looking matronly woman like most of them here looks.

I think your reply should be rescind to your thought pattern then move to your upper cognitive mode to understand why the moral code of conduct request, no short sleeve, no arm pit expose, no short pants, no slippers. There are rules that people in higher level of hierarchy expect. But you won’t know anything about that. Next time use the medium to contribute valuable point instead of name calling, and take lessons of how to think positive, your thought pattern has been mulled by the pit bulls. Stay safe.

Myron can be an advisor to the team or fit somewhere in the NDP administration but sorry, if he is running for Premier or deputy he is not going to get the votes. Here’s why, let’s be real. VIP practically destroyed his political career. NDP will not get the votes if they put Myron to lead the team. No hard feelings but think about it.

As a woman, I am going to support every female that is running for election. I do agree that it is time for a female Premier. We need a change and change is good. You may like steak but at one point you are going to get tired of steak and change to something else.

Women in Parliament scare me. They are weak. Very Weak. 3 of them in VIP sit like lamb on the back bench satisfied with scrums, afraid to speak, don't have courage to oppose their leaders or members when they are wrong...I will have to ponder over this one. I want people who will speak out and stand up against wrong coming from their own party or people, Not been quiet and complicit while the country sinking.

The political candidates are beginning to line up at the starting gate for this exciting contest. May the best candidate win the contest. However, this possible candidate is coming with a storm. She is very arrogant and selfish. She is the one who refused to allow former Governor Jasper to be sworn in in the House of Assembly when he arrived in the Territory. Her mannerism is very crude.

Apart from serving in the capacity as Speaker of the House, she has not extend herself to the community. She has joined the list of the elitist that snob at the poorer class of people. How will she adjust herself to be humbled and improve the lives of the electorate. After her service as Speaker in the HOA she has not been seen because she was too great to be among the people. Now she is coming like Nicodemos in the bible where visits are done by night. I will not be fooled with chicken leg and Johnny cakes. I have dignity and will not bow down to her and her colleagues.

Luce Hodge-Smith will make a strong VOICE in the House given that Opportunity. Her demeanor shows that She has what it takes to be Our First Female Premier.

I don't see the Strength of a Powerful Woman of Values, Integrity and Advocacy in any of the present Females in the HOA or. In any of those making their Intentions of Running. We don't need no YES females or females who cannot hold a Ministerial Post.
