ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has called on the community and the private sector to embrace the Road Town Partnership Project (RTP).

His remarks were made during the Town Hall Meeting for the RTP, which took place at Maria's by the Sea on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The RTP was launched on April 4, 2025, with the objective of transforming the capital into a model of coordinated urban development and sustainable infrastructure. It has an independent board consisting of 11 members from the government, business sector, and the community, and is co-chaired by representatives from both the private and government sectors.

We want RT ‘to be beautiful- Premier

Premier Wheatley emphasised the great potential of Road Town, stating, “The capital city is very important. We want Road Town to be pedestrian-friendly, with less traffic congestion. We want it to be beautiful, to uplift the area, and to be greener with more shade trees. We aim to develop infrastructure that supports our tourism industry, whether it’s the cruise industry or the overnight guest experience."

He further noted, “We aim to create a business infrastructure that benefits our micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as established businesses, such as those in the financial services sector. This is particularly relevant as more people visit for board meetings and events. We want guests and residents to have a pleasant experience."

‘Everyone benefits’

Premier Wheatley added, “The great thing about enhancing ourselves as a tourist destination is that everyone benefits, including visitors. We see the Road Town Partnership as a vehicle to accomplish these diverse goals. I am committed to ensuring it is not overly bureaucratic and operates efficiently.”

He expressed a desire for the RTP to be project-focused, stating, “While we aim high, it can sometimes be challenging to get initiatives off the ground. I’d like us to tackle some smaller, manageable projects that can help us gain momentum. As a government, we are committed to providing funding, but collaboration among multiple stakeholders is essential to increase that momentum."

No financial obstacles but…

The Premier highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in this initiative, emphasising that it presents an opportunity to uplift Road Town for the benefit of everyone.

He concluded by stating that there should be no financial obstacles, but rather a need for our collective will and desire to drive progress and create momentum for transforming Road Town.

Premier Wheatley noted, “Road Town is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and we have been gifted with everything we need. We just need to take strategic, well-thought-out actions to elevate Road Town to the next level.”

Who is everyone? Look at the state of our basic needs; water, light, food etc. The roads, that's another story all by itself. You withheld the owed increments until election year and did the minimum for minimum wage.
You need to stop playing in our faces and taking us for fools. The revenue seems to be used for plane tickets and parties.

will never be a tourist destination. RTown is a walking nightmare. Tourists treat RTown like BVI Customs and Immigration; an uncomfortable peril they endure to get off Tortola and enjoy their holiday.
