ESHS students reveal New Year Resolutions

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- To improve grades and to graduate with honours dominate the list of New Year resolutions for students of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

One of Virgin Islands News Online’s roving reporter spoke to several students this morning January 5, 2011, who were very brief as they hustled to beat the bell on the third day of the new school term.

Rhoan, Yadli, and Dante all hope to improve their examination grades. Dante noted that he was looking forward to improve in all areas of school work.

Adeliza said her New Year resolution for school is to pass History while Innesha wishes to graduate from school with honours.

A very honest Akeisha said she is looking forward to “cut down on the attitude towards teachers and get higher grades”.

Shantay said her New Year Resolution is to do better in Physical Education while Oneisha wants to improve all areas of schooling.

Danielle, wearing a cheeky smile, said her goal this year is to graduate from school. Mary too agreed and said she just wanted to do so quickly.

Deonte Charles’ New Year resolution is “to get out of Form One with flying colours”.

Surprisingly most of the students didn’t see tardiness as one of their New Year resolutions even though they were strolling in long after the school bell had rung.

What hopefully is not a red flag for the males are that the majority of them when approached said they had no New Year resolution or they were yet to decide on it.

A New Year's resolution, according to the Wikipedia Encyclopaedia, is a commitment that a person makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. This goal must be reached by the next New Year.

Keep in mind that this is a goal, not a wish and should be something that you as a person could strive for. One author also wrote that resolutions are more sustainable when shared, both in terms of with whom you share the benefits of your resolution, and with whom you share the path of maintaining your resolution.

A key element to a New Year's Resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year, and new beginnings. People committing themselves to a new year's resolution plan to do so for the whole following year.

First, he could start by getting those stupid gate keepers (Top Priority) out of school business. Second, make the gate next to the softball field an entry point in the morning time to ease the traffic along the court house. Third, have ESHS report its revenue to the Treasury Department. The rest is on him.
