ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) confirmed that officers responded to an incident at the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) yesterday, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, involving a student in distress.

“The student was safely secured with the assistance of school officials and emergency responders, including the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service,” the RVIPF said in its statement.

While the police department said no further details will be provided, reports indicate that the student in question attempted to jump from a school building.

The student was allegedly under the influence

Reports also allege that the student, who is in Grade 8, was under the influence of substances prohibited in schools.

The RVIPF added that enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Last year, reports of illegal substances at secondary schools across the Virgin Islands emerged.

The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports revealed that these substances included alcohol, marijuana-infused foods, and sexual enhancement drugs.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Last year, multiple students were suspended after being caught in possession of these substances.

The ministry has not yet released a statement on this recent incident; however, in a  January 2025 statement, the ministry indicated its support for schools’ zero-tolerance policy.

Chances are the parent(s) is who driving her to do this. Lots of evil, abusive, unfit parents on this island.

The way some of them treat their children you would think that they don't know that slavery was already abolished.

While I understand that some parents may drive their children to do this.. this is not a behavior of sound mind this was a behavior solely under the influence of edibles and alcohol… everybody lies body reacts differently especially when it comes to edibles makes you feel unstoppable… also some of these children does need the thumping up.. this generation is to freaking soft!!! Every little lick they get people quick to call abuse

This is sad and scary. Children’s brains are still developing and are so susceptible to damage from such substances and mentioned in article.
How can we address this as a Community, and guide young people to healthier and safer options and choices?

It's hard to predict what's going on in the heads of some of our children. Some, you only have to look as far as who their parents are, and that would tell you everything you need to know.

Most children with 2 parents households stand a better chance against the ills of society, others will rebel against their parents don't matter what.

But with soo many single parent households, and some women who want to be boss ladies (and do everything), and think they can replace men (real men not weak, menace to society boys that they lay up with) the feminist movement, it will only get worse. We had better embrace some of our traditional values and get back to basics before it's too late.

Teachers today, my heart goes out to you. Be safe out there dealing with some of these kids.

We have to start thinking like our children. Also many of them go through some crazy emotions. Please come with them to PTA today.

It would be best if they do the railings straight to the top for the upper levels.

Some of our children need the attention, care, understanding and guidance of both parents; and if they can not get it within a safe home, they will go seeking for it elsewhere, that may not be safe. Pay attention to their circle of friends.

What I find strange, is that a young woman was going to jump off a building?
    From using substances?
    What kind of substances?
And if such substances, are publicly available, how come we don't see and hear of more people scaling walls on buildings to jump off?

I believe this is much more darker, and sinister, than what is being told!

Some kind of witchcraft is involved!
And until, the types of substances are revealed, I have to believe in the aforementioned!

While y'all arguing about politics and festival artists the youths are being preyed upon by grown men.

We all know the stories of grown man with STDs jumping on these school girls Then we got the grown men who trying make a buck and get kids hooked on their products and don't care how it affects the child in long run.The same grown men who don't mind festival with minors drinking smoking and dressing half naked.

The school rampant with drugs and sex scandals amongst students and the public and politicians turns a blind eye to it now it festered and reach a boiling point but trust me we haven't seen the climax yet.

That's why I always shake my head when I see sherie in the news I remember when the school pointed out in the news that students at the school bring weapons and drugs in and the same students parents give the school backlash and y'all ban waggon and support the parents now look where it's gotten us

Condone bad behaviour and rule breakers and this is where it gets you.

Mind you these students will eventually finish or leave school and will come into our society and we will feel the impact of endorsing bad behaviour and criminality.

Bring back standards Bring back morals

    Women choose better fathers

Women raise you standards and have self respect.

Men have self respect and raise your standards

I guarantee most of the problematic students come from single parent households or households with parents who are party people, weed heads, drugman, club man, Scooter man, criminals, baby mamas , unmarried people

Y'all not taking the school situation serious enough. Those of you with no kids you will eventually get kids and they will enter that chaos that's going on in the school. They will be influenced or be a innocent bystander victim

Grown men introducing rum and drugs to young girls and boys. The same young girls and boys either are in single parent households where the mother is party girl and think it's "cute" that she got her kids being like her smoking, drinking, partying, promoting gang culture, promoting fast life culture.

Or them from a household where the father is a criminal and the mother love "badman" creating off springs to be influenced by their poor morals and standards bringing that chaos into the schools then eventually the public

Right now the current culture is drugs, rum, partying, dressing half naked, dressing like thugs, chasing fast life, listening to dancehall and songs about sex drugs rum and violence etc.

The only people who would enforce this and defend this culture are the people benefiting from hit like the same grown men who introducing drugs and rum to minors and the same grown men who infected with STDs and want to jump on top of young school girls and ofc criminals. Look at the people who defends and promote this culture. Check them socials. Guaranteed then dress half naked, Them a single parent, big gold chains, pants below them waist, driving heavily tinted cars, parting and drinking in most them pics, dry humping and twerking videos.....

Parents be careful who you kids are friends with
Be careful of them teachers and workers at the school especially if them privately talking and whatsapping you kids after school hours ....that's not normal! Especially if them dropping you kids home and you don't know them on personal level!

From the moment y'all saw in the news about Mali don festival night where old heads complained that a lot of minors was drinking and smoking heavily during the festival. That should of sounded that alarm that some serious is going with our youths and minors in the schools. Something is happening. Culture has shifted to the wrong thing and is being enforced by the younger adults and criminals. Peer pressure will drag you child into bad company and bad behaviour.

Fix it before it's too late

The school handled this situation poorly.

Why would you not protect the child by having her in a safe room instead of in the parking lot crying out and waiting on police? Keep the child in a quiet safe room, allow her to calm down, invite the social services to speak with her and parents etc and go from there.
