Erin is now a ‘major hurricane’

As of 5:00 AM today, Saturday, August 16, 2025, Erin was located 247 miles East-North-East of Road Town, and its predicted closest approach is 2:00 PM later today.
Erin, the fifth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, is the season's first hurricane.
Possible impacts on the VI
The possible impacts of Hurricane Erin on the Virgin Islands (VI) are gusty winds, which could cause power interruptions and downed branches; heavy rainfall with a risk of localised flooding in low-lying areas; rough seas that are very dangerous for small boats and coastal activities; and possible disruptions to daily services.
The public can expect “squally weather” this afternoon and evening with high surf and coastal flooding in vulnerable spots and potential interruptions in power and communications.
The DDM is advising the public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, while mariners and beachgoers are advised to stay off the water.
