ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In an ongoing effort to protect the community from Dengue Fever and the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the Environmental Health Division is advising the public that its emergency fogging schedule will begin on Wednesday October 24.

Emergency fogging will take place in the following communities in Tortola: the Dengue Hot Spots of Pasea Estate; Johnson’s Ghut and Purcell Estate; Slaney Hill; the Dengue Hot Spots of Nanny Cay, Hannah’s Estate and Palestina Estate.

Vector Control Manager, Mr. Minchington Israel told the Department of Information and Public Relations, “Fogging will take place between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. during the week until all the areas listed are covered. We will further advise the public on the fogging schedule for the remaining coastal areas in Tortola and on the Sister Islands.”

During the fogging the Vector Control Manager is recommending that persons with respiratory illnesses, particularly asthmatics, leave the area for at least one hour.

In the event of inclement weather such as rain and/or high winds, or because of unexpected delays, no fogging will be performed. Fogging will resume on the next available day until all areas are fogged. The Environmental Health Division is reminding all residents that fogging will provide only temporary relief from the mosquitoes.

Householders and property owners are urged to be vigilant and conduct routine weekly inspections to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in stagnant water around their homes and businesses.

For further information on how to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the carrier of Dengue Fever, telephone the Vector Control Unit of the Environmental Health Division at 468.3701 extension 5110 or 468.5110 or 468.9833.
