'Enough is enough'- NDP on shooting death of Kai de Castro
Mr de Castro, according to the NDP statement, was a son, a brother, a friend, and a member of the Virgin Islands community whose life held value and promise. It added that his untimely death is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating human cost of gun violence.
"Our heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all who are mourning this immeasurable loss. This tragedy has touched our party in a deeply personal way, and we stand in solidarity with those who loved him during this difficult time."
'Cowardly & criminal act'
The NDP said it unequivocally condemns this cowardly and criminal act, and that the continued use of firearms to settle disputes and take lives has no place in our society.
This is now the second fatal shooting in recent weeks, and, according to the NDP, it should alarm every citizen of these Virgin Islands.
"Every life stolen leaves behind grieving families, shattered dreams, and a community searching for answers. We call on all who have chosen violence to lay down their weapons and reject the cycle of fear, retaliation, and bloodshed that continues to inflict immeasurable pain on our people.
Assist the police- NDP urges
"We urge anyone with information that may assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in its investigation to come forward. Those responsible for this senseless act must be brought to justice. Accountability is essential—not only for Kai's loved ones but also for the peace and security of our entire Territory."
The National Democratic Party said it remains committed to advocating for safer communities, stronger crime prevention strategies, and meaningful opportunities for young people.
"We believe that every Virgin Islander deserves to live without fear and that no family should have to endure the anguish of losing a loved one to gun violence.
"Today, we mourn with all who are grieving. Tomorrow, we must renew our collective determination to confront violence with courage, unity, and resolve."
