ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Second-term legislator Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), now the Minister for Health and Social Development, says he is eager to chart the course where upgrades or refinements are required within the Ministry, Departments, Units, and Boards that are under his responsibility.

“The National Health Insurance was a hot topic during the recently concluded general elections and I have already begun engaging the relevant stakeholders to move forward with the solutions.”

Hon Wheatley made the remarks during Last week’s May 18, 2023, swearing-in ceremony and First Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

“Madam Speaker, as it relates to the Social Assistance Grants, I hear the concerns of the residents and I have encouraged the Social Development Department to increase their public relations campaign to ensure that everyone is well aware and understand the process,” he noted.

Hon Wheatley added that he is 100% supportive of the department receiving additional resources to better assist the public.

Hon Wheatley commits to working with all legislators

Meanwhile, the Minister said he is fully committed to working with all elected Members to bring about the many changes and opportunities for the Territory and its people, whether it be land, affordable homes, assistance for farmers and fisher-folks, cleaning up the Territory or improvements in Education or Financial Services.

Hon Wheatley added that he re-affirms his commitment to finding solutions to VI’s challenges and improving local services where necessary.

“I am honoured to be entrusted to lead the change for such an important Ministry, especially given the fact that the subjects under my charge touch the lives of every individual who lives and call these islands home,” he added.

First make sure all are paying in, many are deducting from their staff and keeping the money for themselves, you all must know who they are or are they some if our “untouchables”. Second regulate what the greedy medical facilities charge they all doubled or tripled their fees when NHI kicked in.

Is Mr Wheatley losing it or something? NHI has been "under a new Government" for the last four years. Anyway, I am happy he has awaken and realize it is.

Only new staff can bring real and true change...Trying to change the system the system with the same workers and bosses that created a culture of bias, unfairness, like and dislike low production where the boss is God. That' Immigration, health, Inland rev... Labour , NHI...I am building a house and am not please with my contractor performance, workers showing up when they want, leaving when they want, no one listening, So I made the change and got a new contractor new workers and all my Issues were solved..That's the hard decisions change require...Social Security must be the best performed and most professional dept..

NHI is the most disorganised department I have ever seen the staff appears clueless and couldn't care less when they settle your claim. They pick and choose who they want to pay and push other people claims to the bottom. It takes months and months to get a claim settled and if you lucky to get it settled they find reasons to pay a much lower amount than what is due. And dont even waste your time going into the office to see them, its a nightmare and another story. It's like the blind leading the blind in there. Something need to be done now.
