'End fixation on COVID & focus on building VI's healthcare'- Bishop Cline to Hon Malone
Bishop Cling during the August 24, 2021, edition of the My BVI radio show said the accusation was hurled from Health Minister, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) during an online conversation on COVID-19 in the VI and the effects of the vaccine.
COVID-19 & the future of VI Public healthcare
Bishop Cline said over the course of 16 months, the VI has heard a resounding story of successes against the virus from the Health Minister. He said; however, despite this, the COVID-19 vaccine has not done what it was promised to do, which was to eradicate the COVID-19 virus.
"What it has done was stop people from becoming severely ill, or causing them from dying... at least most people, some people still die especially with the Delta variant," he said.
As such, Bishop Cline said with the presence of COVID-19, every person must take personal responsibility for their lives, given the virus can still be spread by both the vaccinated and unvaccinated.
He said while there is an appreciation for the focus on healthcare and the numbers, other areas of healthcare is suffering.
"While the Minister has focused on that, I believe the territory has seen a deterioration in the quality of healthcare coming out of our public system, and for that, I took issue with the good Minister," he said.
'He said I was looking attention' - Bishop alleged
According to the Bishop, he then told the minister to have the issue rectified; however was surprised at the response. "He said I was looking for attention, and that God is going to give me the attention I need," Bishop Cline alleged.
According to the clergyman, the Minister must now prioritise the public hospital system.
"End your fixation on COVID-19, and focus now your attention on building a healthcare system," Bishop Cline charged.
He said the Health Minister has a staff complement that can achieve the mandate. 'We elected you not the Minister of COVID, we elected the minister of Health, and is important for you to focus on health and continue to build on the work that was done already," Bishop Cline said.
Bishop Cline, in setting the record straight, further said he was in no way seeking attention or 'hating' on the Health Minister.

with me. Daily I hope and pray to not see Clines face or hear or read any of his utterances but Father God
ignoring me and Lucifer torturing.
No vaccine can do what it’s made to do if (a sufficient number of) people don’t take it.
And you, Sir, were in a position to educate and encourage people to take it and you did not. And when you finally did say something, you were cagey about it. Self serving.
Lay off the The Minister of Health. He has been doing his job and trying his utmost to educate people during this pandemic.
Health care systems all over the world have been overwhelmed by this virus. The BVI is no different.
How you know none of the were vaccinated? They covered up what happened to the first young lady who died from COVID so I am not surprised. That is not the truth.
Don't normally agree with Cline but he is right Covid exposed the vulnerability of our healthcare system and we need to make fixing it a priority instead of spending money on high priced lawyers to file frivolous legal motions. 37 deaths in 3 weeks when we had a year to prepare is unacceptable. USVI had 40 plus deaths in 16 months. I know the staff is trying their best but we need to get more expert assistance.
Bottomline, we have done absolutely nothing, almost 2 years later, to boost the capabilities of our Healthcare infrastructure. We are no better off at tackling this pandemic now, than we were in March 2020.
Do we have additional ventilators?
Have we ensured that each of the Sister Islands have 3 or 4 working ventilators?
Have we brought in ventilator technicians and specialists?
Have we put a package together to entice all of our Healthcare practitioners to return home?
Have we empowered the private practices to be able to aid in the fight? (Bear in mind that all PCR tests must still be sent to the hospital to get results)?
Have we empowered our residents by encouraging healthier eating, working out and boosting immune systems through natural foods?
Are we any better off or better able to handle this pandemic now, than we were 2 years ago? The answer is a resounding NO.
Our only plan is vaccines? Our only response is curfew and closed economies? We are sorely lacking vision and experience in our "leadership".
Let's also not forget that several members of the ruling party initially refused to take the vaccine as well.
@Unbiased. The USA has limited ventilators and the whole world has needed them so even they couldn't buy anymore, the BVI doesn't manufacture anything, so do you think we can just walk into KFC & order a ventilator and get it? The global realities affect us too.
What is the UK's plan? What about USA? China? It is Vaccinations & stopping community spread. The lock down stops the hospital beds from being booked out, so that if there is a car accident that person can get help. In order to survive you must be adaptable or die like a dinosaur.
