Elinah Phillips sets new OECS record at championships!

File - Sisters Elinah and Amara Phillips walked away with eight medals for the BVI.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Elinah Phillips beat the time set by Tuesday Watts in 2002 in winning the Gold Medal in the 9-10 yr old Girls 50m Free style Event at the 21st OECS Swimming Championships which was held in St Lucia from November 4 - 6, 2011.
Her winning time was 31.19 seconds beating the old mark by 0.64 seconds.

All in all after the first two days of events Elinah and sister Amarah have shared 8 Medals including 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze.

Amarah won Gold in both the 11-12 yr old Girls 50 metre Freestyle and 50 metre Breaststroke. Her winning times 30.87 seconds and 39.52 respectively. She added a silver in the 100 metre Fly stroke in a time of 1:21.87 and Bronze in the 200 metre Freestyle in a time of 2:38.81.

Elinah added to her record breaking swim with Gold in the 50 metre Backstroke with a time of 37.71 and won the 200 metre Freestyle Bronze in a time of 2:49.25.

After the first two days, encompassing 64 Events Team BVI were placed 5th overall, behind Grenada in 1st, St Lucia in 2nd and Antigua in 3rd.

    I do not follow swimming but would like to congratulate these two young ladies on their achievments. Keep up the training, the good work and continue to be positive.
