FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI– 2023 political candidate and ‘Cut Deep’ talk show host, Cindy Rosan has also slammed former legislator Eileene L. Parsons, OBE for comments she made on what is a Virgin Islander.

Ms Parsons, during a panel discussion at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, on Virgin Islands Day, July 4, 2022, indicated that her personal opinion is that a Virgin Islander should be able to trace his or her heritage for three generations on both sides.

Her comments immediately sparked conversations on the topic and angered several persons who believe the opinion has desecrated their right at being called a Virgin Islander.

Cindy Rosan, while speaking as a telephone guest on the Tuesday, July 5, 2022, edition of the International Morning Braff Show with host Floyd Burnett aka 'Heritage' on Tola Radio, said Ms Parsons does not get to have a personal opinion like that.

Parsons still influential in VI- Cindy Rosan

“I know everybody wants to say that’s her personal opinion, but Ms Parsons doesn’t get to get a personal opinion like that. She was a legislator, she is still a public figure, she is still influential in the territory,” Rosan added.

“She doesn’t get to make a personal opinion like that, especially since she sat in our House [of Assembly] for three terms and compounded this issue, she’s a part of this problem,” Rosan underscored.

She said while everyone has a right to a personal opinion, there are some personal opinions that shouldn’t see the light of day.

Parsons 'out of touch' with VI - Julio S. Henry

Meanwhile, social commentator Julio S. Henry aka 'Sam' has accused the former legislator, Parsons, of being out of touch with the Virgin Islands.

“She's out of touch, she's out of sync with what we are saying and what we are feeling, how we are feeling, so when she makes comments, she makes comments in a certain circle,” he said.

Mr Henry, who plans to have a talk show on ZBVI radio, said it is important for him to be able to talk to the older generation on different issues.

“We are not able to talk to her and reason with her because you know, again, she's not listening to Tola [radio], so I need to go on ZBVI to be able to talk to people like her,” he added.

I initially disagreed with Mrs Parsons.
But now that Cindy Rosan Jones has disagreed with her, I am wondering if perhaps Mrs Parsons was correct.

We have an opening for a lovely, aged Crustacean from the Manchester area. But for real, a former public figure is willing to spew divisiveness in a public forum and is given a free pass for her archaic views?!? We have moved past (or I thought we did) this weak and limited thinking in these modern times. Look at the composition of the US & UK parliaments/senates and you will see diversification in their compositions. Ms. Parsons will leave a legacy that she won’t be remembered for her good deeds; but rather her controversial and somewhat limited views in a modern world. Fade away please!

But just changing the benchmark as to who qualifies as a BVIslander isn't the way to keep a reputation.... Educating your population, raising your children properly off the streets - this is how you keep your reputation. You're comment suggests that someone not paying their bills can be explained by where their grandparent or great grandparent were born? NONSENSE. It is about HOW we are bringing our children up and WHAT we are teaching them and all of that is being done RIGHT HERE. If only we focused our energy on providing a level of stability for the nations youth instead of publicly disowning them perhaps we would see different results.

It's not how "we" raise our children.
        It's how " t h ey" raise their children.
The fill to capacity prison population is at least 99.9% they and their children.
The new VI is a population of hundreds of different nationalities.
"They" and only they are the terminators of what made the VI exceptionally an exception.
"They "were born and dragged up in a specific location and where their grandparents were born....updeislun!!!, a place where civility ,based on the human behaviour of most is predictably and rouyinrly demonstrated as uncivilized .and destructive. We cannot change and revise this crop of human DNA. No such magic wand. Their import and installation in massive amounts in the VI,was an act of self anhialation by power hungry local elected members of a certain political party in exchange for votes..Karma fixin dat as we debate. The VI and its people are blessed. No good deed goes unpunished. Our ancestors and the Divine is with us.We gonna be OK.

And as these proven good for we human characteristics are usurped and eroded ,the VI is becomes another demonstration of the Negro failure ...all this with the assist of our " brothers and " sisters" to whom we extended welcome and opportunities ,sharing our 2x4
Land mass . We will become another grub of humanity ashamed to be identified and related to the. VI,poor in Spirit begging to be like somebody.

I am a proud Virgin Islander born in 1970 and it was a different time then to what it is now. It’s all about perspective. Those are Mrs. P’s views on the Virgin Islands that we knew and cherished. Few Virgin Islanders were financially wealthy but we are people rich with culture, love, respect and care for one another. In those days children were raised by the village. They were our children. My mother would always say…. Manners can take you around the world. I do however disagree with being able to trace your descendants back 3 generations on either side. It would be nice to know and trace but we don’t have resources and records to do that. The VI is a melting pot with peoples of varied cultures, customs and education levels and we as Virgin Islands people are outnumbered. It’s difficult to maintain one’s identity when it is diluted by indifference and outside influences. I can’t and shouldn’t be allowed to tell another country who they are and what their opinions and customs should be. We have a bunch of bourgeois, “educated” folks from here and all over the Caribbean that have a UK accent. WHY?? Is that what is required to be accepted or taken seriously? There are people born in America but are of Polish, German, Italian decent. Likewise there are people born in the Virgin Islands with Anguilla, Jamaican, Trinidadian and Guyanese decent… it is what it is

I am also a Virgin Islander who grew up in these beautiful islands. It is very easy to trace your ancestry back several generations so I truly do not understand your statement…many of use have done so. The records are public and easily accessible to all. What I would say is that I can trace my ancestry back to slavery on both sides of my family tree. However. I do not agree that both sides is applicable to be branded generationally indigenous. One side of your family tree is sufficient enough in my opinion. There are some however, as Ms. Parson stated that has never mentally embrace their Virgin Islands heritage or bloodline and often times it is the parent’s fault.

I s it wrong what Cindy Rosan said, when she said that Eileene L. Parsons is part of the problem in the VI?
Let us keep it real. I would not have said word by word the same way Cindy Rosan did, but just because Cindy Rosan is sometimes radical in statements that she said in the past, what makes you think that she is wrong about Eileene L. Parsons difinition on the issue of who is, singular, or who are, plural, genuine Virgin Islanders?
TheWe are experiencing great Division among ourselves. We Humans are all inperfect, including, Eileene L. Parsons, Cindy Rosan, you, I and others. The truth is the truth.

So Ms Parsons thinks you need three generations both sides. Expats whose children are born here are told their child isn’t a Virgin Islander just because it’s born here. One commentator has said one parent who is born here makes a Virgin Islander. How about a person not born here but with a parent born here but whose never set foot otherwise in the BVI? How about a person whose great grandparents were born here but who has no other connection and has never been to the BVI and may not even be aware of the connection?

Miss P is an established, industrious, educated woman who has made significant contribution to this country and contrary to the minority who are offended because of the recent statement she made, that will not change the definition of who is a Virgin Islander. And all of the people who are prancing out of emotions and sheer ignorance, Miss P did NOT make this law. The only thing she did was to highlight it. It’s only in the BVI that this kind of nonsense is allowed where so many have the notion that this country owe them something and so they are entitled. Not such a thing happens in other countries and if you want to get a clear picture of what I’m talking about then look at the policies in Bermuda and see what happens there. People like Cindy, Sam, Kareem and all the others needed to do research on this topic first before they spew their toxic influence into the public.

Let's not forget the part where they all slept with each other. To this day you have people getting married and there is no need for the woman to change her last name, because the man is her close relative. How can your children be your children and still your cousin? How can your brother be your brother, and still your cousin? They do not respect or value other cultures, if it wasn't for some of us coming in here who would have saved them from themselves??
