Eileen Baronville to make 3rd run for At Large seat
Baronville, who holds the distinction of being the first female Virgin Islander to be employed in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), first contested in 1999 and again in 2003 under the slogan “A vote for me is a bond for you” and the grass root being her symbol.
Her love for the Territory and its youth and to see them succeed can be considered the driving factors behind Miss Baronville’s decision to continue to seek political office. She is currently the owner of Paradise Pre-School, which was opened in 1962.
Although her slogan and platform are yet to be made known for this year’s election, her campaign focus over the years have been on social and economic issues that she felt needed the most attention and had also proposed a technical college. Other issues that came out in her platform were the state of the Peebles Hospital, care for the mentally and physically challenged, poverty, domestic violence and education.
In 2007, the multi-talented Baronville had stated “I wish to serve my country as a root woman, like Esther in the bible, who was a catalyst for change" and this seems to hold strong even now.
Among the persons contesting At Large seats at the upcoming general elections are Independent candidates Bertrand Lettsome, David 'Cannon' Fahie and Edmund Maduro; The People's Patriotic Alliance (PPA) Natalio Wheatley, Shaina M. Smith, Khoy Smith and Elton Callwood; National Democratic Party candidates Dr. D Orlando Smith, Myron Walwyn, Archibald Christian and Ronnie Skelton; and Virgin Islands Party candidates Zoe Walcott- McMillan, Hon. Irene Penn-O’Neal, Hon. Keith Flax and Hon. Vernon Malone.
The true picture of those contesting would be revealed after Nomination Day, which is Monday October 24, 2011.
