Efforts afoot to oust Opposition Leader Hon Walwyn

- Could this be the collapse of The Alliance under Myron V. Walwyn?

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It seems like the phrases ‘The world is a circle’, ‘Every dog has his day’, and 'Karma is real' are about to take effect on Leader of the Opposition and current Sixth District Representative Hon Myron V. Walwyn.

It was some eight months ago, in March of 2025, that Mr Walwyn led a coup to overthrow the former Opposition Leader, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), and formed a new political party called The Alliance.

Hon Walwyn took with him two of Hon Skelton’s Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) men, Hons Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Stacy R. Mather (AL), giving him a three-member majority in the five-member Opposition.

Since then, the PVIM merged with the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Hon Mather fled last month from the Walwyn-led Alliance to join the Government of Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), giving Dr Wheatley’s Administration a nine-member majority in the House of Assembly (HoA).

Walwyn Out?  Turnbull In?

Now word from persons familiar with the discussions is that Opposition Members Hon Skelton and Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) are willing to sign for Hon Turnbull to become the new Opposition Leader, getting rid of Mr Walwyn. It could also mean the collapse of The Alliance as a political party in the 2027 general elections, as active recruitment was underway.

It is widespread knowledge that the Virgin Islands delegation, to be led by Premier Wheatley to London to negotiate the new constitution, and many do not want Mr Walwyn to be a part of the delegation because it is believed he would not support special rights for indigenous Virgin Islanders (a new phrase also being used is ancestral Virgin Islanders). These special rights include some public sector jobs only to be held by indigenous Virgin Islanders, like Premier, Deputy Premier, Deputy Governor (if it survives the constitution), Speaker of the HoA, Cabinet Secretary, among others.

Indigenous or ancestral Virgin Islanders refer to persons who can trace the birthplace of one or both of their parents and grandparents to the Virgin Islands. None of Mr Walwyn's parents or grandparents was born in the Virgin Islands. He once said in a public address that "there is nothing more that can be done for Virgin Islanders".

It remains unclear when or if Mr Turnbull would go to Government House to be sworn in and receive his instrument or if he will rejoin the NDP. There is a Sitting of the HoA on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, when the Speech from the Throne will be delivered by the UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce. This speech, written by the Dr Wheatley Administration, sets out the Government’s legislative agenda for the year.

This is pure madness. These are the most dysfunctional politicians in the history of the BVI. ALL of them.

He will definitely be ousted providing he doesn't get the majority of his opposition colleagues. Standing at 3 to 1 a new speaker will be selected no matter who any of the 3 it maybe. Karma is no obeah. Another palace coup is at foot.

Myron Walwyn is the perfect candidate for the head of the opposition.
He will fight for you to the end.
    He does not quit.

Old people does say what “what don’t start right in the morning can’t come good at night”. If people really knew how this party (NDP) started they would understand all this falling out. The party was taken over from the founder (Paul Wattley) no surprise here. Been doing this since the party hijack. The only reason they allow Dr. Smith as leader i due to his popularity and been liked by everyone and they needed him to get in counsel. Very few people may have supported them other wise.

All parties have their history. At the end of the day, we want men and women who are intentional in their representation and don't bother bring no one who talk like hog to people when they ready.

All I’m seeing is it will so difficult for anyone to remember accurately our history. Can you imagine asking a student on morning devotion quiz any questions about this group of politicians.

This information, instead of helping or uniting us, divides us more. I am this individual who was born here with the same skin color as one of the people from the nearby islands, the same blood color, speaks the same language. I remember a few years ago, locals competing for a leadership position in VIP "two nationals." There were times when I tried to call the fire department; the heat was intense between Sea Coy Bay and Western End. Now it's everyone against one, and that one isn't alone; he's a shrimp who knows how to swim against the current. Don't underestimate them because they are also intelligent.

Umm the Alliance was not a political party. Stop giving credence to hearsay and ignoring the facts. Was the Alliance registered as a political party anywhere? Was/is there an executive body and congress? What was/is their mandate, organizational structure, members etc.

From what I can deduce, Myron is still the substantive leader of NDP as no internal elections were held after he did not get re-elected when Marlon was left standing alone. Marlon became the defacto leader because Myron lost the election.

So since Ronnie dissolved PVIM and rejoined NDP, and Myron ran last election as an NDP; isn’t Myron, Ronnie & Marlon the current incumbent members of NDP with Mitch not being affiliated (so far) with NDP?

If Marlon & Ronnie decided to write and vote for Mitch to become the LoO and their trust is more I. Mitch vs Myron; what does that tell the public? It can’t be that they are all wrong about him and he’s a victim. No. Some persons are just not good to work with as they cannot be trusted. Is it a trust issue?

This is nothing more than sour grapes and a power struggle. The two members who are mentioned willing to sign on to Hon Turnbull becoming Oppisition Leader in my opinion are all politicians who many people do not wish to be their Premier.

If indeed they carry out with this plan, they will remain in the Opposition indefinately, and the VIP will return to power during the next election. Take that check to the bank and cash it.

Now, I am not a card carying member of any party and owe no allegiance to any, but this is what I see. Many people do not want Ronnie to be their Premier. They dont want Marlon either, and they certainly dont want Mitch as well. So you guys are stuck between a rock and hard place.

Carry on at your own peril. In my opinion, their best chance of running the government again is with the current Oppositon Leader whom I have no relations to or am a supporter of. I have no opinion of him positive or negative. It's just what I see when I look at the group. He is more capable than all 3 men combined. Let that sink in. So let them do what they got to do. Their combined egos will be the downfall of the all 3 men.

This may very well be one of the most calculated and quietly sinister maneuvers to ever play out in BVI politics. The leaders of the PVIM and the NDP who are still struggling to persuade the public that their reunion under the NDP banner is genuine and are unable to settle the question of leadership within this so called “united NDP” are now prepared to cede Opposition leadership to Melvin Turnbull. All of this simply to ensure that Myron Walwyn is removed as Leader of the Opposition and therefore excluded from the delegation heading to London for the constitutional talks.
I hope they don’t dare cry foul if, when the dust finally settles, Melvin Turnbull turns around and challenges both of them for the NDP leadership.

If Walwyn is pushed out he will start to look like the only future legitimate candidate to be in the
    HOA.

The rest just aligning themselves with greed, self interests, greed, corruption, greed, self interest, greed, corruption, SECRETS, hiding greed, self interest and corruption.

Never agreed with what Walwyn wants and says but he does not seem to be just in it for himself like the dirty lying, greedy, selfish others in the HOA. No one in the HOA wants to align with him because of that.

Walwyn leading fresh blood is starting to look like our only realistic option.

Myron will always get help; he remains part of the club. On another note, YEP was clear on what happens from the opposition end; they rely on the Ministers in power to help. But when children running the ministries you shouldn't expect much, except that it is an election year so things should happen.

Sad, but true. The majority, if not all, of the current political B.V.I leaders are money ravenous and power hungry. In spite of these two major problems, they all have experience, where as expected or non expected new political leaders have no experience to get the B.V.I people out of the mess hole, we are now in, financially speaking.

In reference to, Hon. Myron Walwyn, not being viewed by many locals to fit in the Premier position, I see this view as a very bias view. Hon. Myron Walwyn is a local native Tortolian, I was told. All politicians a double-minded people, especially when it suit their personal aim. Humans nature is flauded bo matter their sexual orientation, their place of birth, their physical appearance, their religious belief or ethnicity. Crookedness is Crookedness. Wickedness on this earth has no boundaries. For all have sin an fallen short of God's glory. In spite of this truth, we all that know better can do better, if we choose to.

Turnbull to replace Walwyn...They need to get serious with the People's business and stop playing dolly house..Myron is not my favourite person but there is nothing serious, progressive or honest about replacing him with Turnbull....Its an embarrassment to the intelligence of the BVI and its people..
