ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the aim of re-imagining the local education system, subject Minister Hon Sharie B. de Castro (AL) says the Education Ministry is looking to devise a plan on how to integrate new learning strategies in the local system.

Speaking during a September 27, 2022, edition of Public Eye produced by the Government Information Service, the Minister said the plan will start with conversations with various sectors in the VI.

“I think the Ministry is currently devising a strategy to see how we could truly go out and have strategic conversations with the private sector and even the voluntary organizations who have a keen interest in education and understanding how they too can play an integral role in the development of education in a territory and so.”

Hon de Castro continued, “We believe ultimately that we have to have a serious conversation and truly reimagine education, so we have to have these types of conversations with the public to help them to understand where we are, where we want to go and what we believe it takes for us to get there.”

More public information to come - Hon de Castro

She added that there are some facts that are extremely important for the ministry to get out to the public so that stakeholders in education can understand not only their role, but produce the data that guides the sector.

“One of the things we've said is that whatever decision we make, it has to be data-driven and research-based and fits the best practices that are international in relation to where we should go specific to our field and education,” she said.

Hon de Castro added that the Ministry is now taking up opportunities to connect with the public at different levels where people will have an opportunity to get integral insight into the day-to-day work of the ministry as well as how the public can be a part of the sector.

Follow @Miss_Snuffy and learn. So much of what she has achieved would catapult out youth forward as leaders.

Whilst I commend the college's marine course we NEED to start developing a strong relationship between our young people and the ocean/sailing MUCH EARLIER.... put resources into swimming and sailing programs for children from SMALL. This will produce CAPTAINS, not boat hands. Instructors, not boat cleaners..... Companies will hire the competent. Why not expand the reach of the technical school? Include scuba diving (I am sure most of the operations in the BVI would be happy to partner) so we can start producing dive instructors (instead of importing them).... this is just my 2c when it comes to the marine industry and what we could achieve with just a LITTLE more thinking outside the box.

Pay the teachers their increments. Maintain the school buildings so there is no risk of collapse, mold issues and the like. Stop asking children to bring their own toilet paper to school. What a difference you will see that makes. Deal with the obvious first.

That's not too hard for me to do!
    1. No overcrowding
    2. Students whose parents invest in reading
    3. Well-disciplined students
    4. The importance of education stressed in the home
    5. An education system where a general foundation is laid and students can choose any professional path they wish. (Eg. like the education system we had before Fahie and his successors became ministers for education)

What's your idea of re-imagining our education system Minister?

Educational system is good to help us reach to a higher level of management wholisticly, but no amount and quality of systems will bring the success we sought after.m, but it do help to a point. However though, I agree with you that the general public views can help, if our leaders are ready to put aside party politics.
Understand and accept this truth, education begins at home. Those who mind are set to following only other persons systems that contridict God our Creator Devine Order. If we remain stubborn minded, we will remain confused.
The world educational system is designed to the rich manipulate, and maintained control over, especially the poor, and ignorance. In spite of, some systems do help.

The public need to be inform on the background of the teachers that are educating our children, to make sure that they ate benefit the welfare of our children, and not just there for the money and damaging our children minds with their hatred and disrespect of our children.

To make a real difference in education the government needs to put some real money into the system.

The only education minister in recent years who did not try to re-image the education system was Shawonda. Myron tried and made a mess. Y'all stop changing up the education system to gain political ponts because the children and teachers are who suffering. Put rescources into the education system and improve on what you have. Insufficient rescources is the problem. Our children when they travel they perform well. Stop making them feel like they need re-imaging.
