ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has announced the hosting of a ‘Happy Hour’ for teachers as part of Teachers' Week 2021.

Teachers Day is celebrated on October 6, 2021.

Education & COVID-19

Dr Wheatley, in a statement, thanked teachers for their scarifies.

“We acknowledge and recognise the work that you do. Teachers are important to our society, the responsibility placed on you to mould the lives of our children and young people of these Virgin Islands cannot be underestimated. You are at the centre of teaching and learning.”

Dr Wheatley said although teachers face their personal matters while dealing with the impacts of COVID-19, persons still rely on them to “help our children heal and fill the knowledge gaps suffered during this pandemic period.”

He said as an appreciation, his ministry has reached out to the local business community to offer teachers’ discounted rates during Teachers’ Week and/or during October.

“Many have responded favourably. You will receive digital coupons either through your VI Schools email directly or from your principal. These coupons must be presented at the business to benefit from the discounts.”

“Also, I will be sponsoring a happy hour for teachers on the four islands for all educators from 4:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m on Friday of this week. On Tortola, it will be at the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies, and on the other islands, your principal will inform you of the venues.”

Hon Wheatley said the incentives are just another small way of the ministry saying thanks by showing appreciation for the hard work teachers do.

I have much love and respect for the Teachers. This is just my opinion only. Why not give each teacher a voucher to a day spa where they can get pampered and for some relaxation.

It is great to see the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture recognizing and appreciating the important role that teachers play in society. Teachers do play an important role in shaping the lives of children and young people, and their efforts should never be underestimated. In their dedication to education, teachers foster intellectual growth, inspire curiosity, and encourage critical thinking. Their commitment to teaching students through various research methods such as buying term papers online is commendable as they guide students through various subjects and help them develop important skills for their future endeavours.
