ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The main dishes and delicacies from several Caribbean islands were on display and of course to sample at the Ebenezer Thomas Primary school as the Principal, teachers, students and parents celebrated a pre Commonwealth event today Friday March 9, 2012.

Belize, Dominica, Guyana, St. Lucia, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Trinidad, Barbados and Antigua were well represented in terms of participation.

According to Sybil Hodge, the school’s principal, this year’s event was pushed forward because she observed that parents took their children overseas for the long weekend hence the participation on Commonwealth Day had declined over the past few years.

The scrumptious foods included chowmein, jerk chicken, doubles, fungi, peas soup, fish cakes, fried dumplings, among others and Virgin Islands News Online reporter observed that the fruit juices was a hit with the students.

Principal Hodge congratulated the teachers and parents for their hard work in preparing the dishes.

The day’s event wrapped up with a march to the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre and back with the students waving flags of the Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean.

Also present at the day's event was 3rd District Representative, Hon. Julian Fraser RA.
