'Easter is a time for pause & reflection’- Premier Wheatley

In his Easter message to the territory on April 3, 2026, the Premier stated, “As we enter the sacred Easter weekend, from the solemnity of Good Friday, to the triumph of Easter Monday. We are reminded of the profound journey of Jesus Christ. Whose life, death, and resurrection continue to shape our faith and strengthen our hope. This is a season that calls each of us to pause, reflect, and refocus our hearts on the enduring promises of God.” Photo: Facebook

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has encouraged Virgin Islanders to use this Easter weekend as a time for pause and reflection.

This is a season that calls each of us to pause, reflect, and refocus our hearts on the enduring promises of God.”

Reflected on the crisis of today

According to the Premier, Good Friday symbolises sacrifice and suffering.

“Jesus carried the weight of the cross, bearing pain, rejection, and the burden of humanity's brokenness. It was a moment of deep darkness when even those closest to him struggled to understand the purpose behind such hardship.”

He reflected on the wars of today, stating, “Today, many around the world face their own difficult moments. Wars, economic pressures, uncertainty, and personal trials have created a sense of heaviness that mirrors, in part, the sorrow of that first Good Friday. Yet the story does not end there on the third day, to the power of God. Jesus rose from the grave.”

The Premier reminded Virgin Islanders that God's resurrection shattered the darkness and restored hope to a world in despair.

Reflect on the resurrection

He urged Virgin Islanders to reflect on the resurrection as "the resurrection reminds us that no matter how heavy our burdens may feel, no matter how challenging the road ahead may seem, no matter how deep our despair, God's power to renew, restore, and uplift remains ever present".

He added, “This Easter, let us hold firmly to that hope. Just as Christ overcame the greatest of trials, so too can we endure the difficulties we face. Whether as individuals, as families, or as a community.”

The premier further called for Virgin Islanders to use this occasion to renew their faith, strengthen bonds with one another, and recommit themselves to compassion, unity, and service.

I am with you. Honestly it seems like its only Ronnie got the courage to make the tough and good decisions...Look at the 10 gran tax free on salaries, that a lot of us are so thankful for, its a great help. Ronnie, Look at NHI a very good thing Ronnie did, Now the health ministers after Ronnie are the ones have NHI in this position by refusing to make the adjustments that are required, like anything new adjustments along the way are needed. It will take Ronnie to come back and make those adjustments...I ask the people to give Ronnie that chance as Premier..

I guess in the BVI most people know that Easter is about the death and resurrection of Jesus. However, what does that mean for you and me and why are Christians so excited about it?
