According to a social media statement by the Ministry of Communications and Works, following the reopening, construction crews will begin work on the westbound lane in preparation for concrete pouring later this week.

Motorists travelling through the area are advised to exercise caution, reduce their speed, and follow all traffic signs and instructions from workers. Drivers should also remain alert for changing road conditions and possible delays as construction progresses. 

The Ministry of Communications and Works commenced critical coastal protection and roadway improvement works along the Fort Recovery to Cox Heath corridor in January 2026. 

1st phase of road enhancement project

This marks the first phase of the broader nine-mile road enhancement project stretching from the West End Ferry Terminal to Road Town. The initiative follows the signing of a fourteen million, eighty-eight thousand, six hundred and twenty dollars and two cents ($14,088,620.02) contract with Tortola Paving in December 2025.

These works represent a three-phase effort concentrated on this vulnerable stretch of roadway; therefore, upon completion, the Ministry will proceed with additional paving and infrastructure improvements along the remainder of the West End to Road Town route. 

The Ministry stated that prioritising the Fort Recovery to Cox Heath section allows for expedited delivery of improvements that will provide immediate safety and resilience benefits to the travelling public.
