EAST END, Tortola, VI – Works on the East/End Long Look sewerage project has recommenced according to Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in a Facebook statement.

“Thanks to the Ministry of Finance and the Minister of Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer and his Ministry, after years of delays, your government, today, has restarted the long-overdue East End/Long Look Sewage Project on Tortola, BVI,” Premier Fahie said in a statement released yesterday, August 10, 2021.

ViP Gov't vows to complete project

Since taking office, Premier Fahie vowed his government’s commitment to not only fix the area's sewage woes but also its dilapidated roads.

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reached out to subject minister, Hon Rymer for comment on the timeline of the project and possible completion date; however, no response was received up to publication time.

The project, also called the National Sewage Project, was officially re-commissioned on October 30, 2020, and having been delayed for several years, the project is designed to give the area its first public sewer system by connecting it to another treatment plant located in Paraquita Bay.

The project is being executed in three phases, which started with preliminary works and procurement of equipment and materials as well as a household assessment and understanding the sewage demands in the areas.

In Phase Two, there will be the establishment of pumping mains, pipe lanes, gravity lines, and other infrastructural works such as manholes and pump stations will be installed between the communities of Parham Town to Paraquita Bay.

Finishing works in Phase three

Phase three will include the re-pairing of the outfall lines at Brandywine Bay, as well as commissioning the Paraquita Bay wastewater treatment plant that was constructed in 2016 but was never used due to hurricane damage in 2017. Sludge drying beds will also be established in the Paraquita Bay area.

According to Hon Rymer, during the re-commissioning, the project will no doubt resolve the challenge of wastewater running through communities, including mitigating possible health issues due to the unsanitary conditions present.

The re-commissioned East/End Long Look sewerage project is being funded at a cost of $6,142,500.

I totally agree with”guest”. This is about the fourth or fifth time vast amounts of taxpayers money is being spent to run pipes from long look area to paraquita bay. They think that if we allow a few years to pass then people will forget. What’s wrong in this little country? I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of successive governments perpetuating the same lies.

When i was a boy in primary school they been talking bout it. Bout 10 years ago they were doing it but stopped. 10 years later they start back. Im a grown man with almost grown child and its the same sad and sick story every administration. Projects like these shouldnt take over 20 years. Time for a total revamp of the political landscape once and for all. We are sick and frankly tired.

Point well taken: modern day politicians pay more attention to tourism, the foreign investors; trust companies and foreign affairs

the voting public is embarrassed only a few hours before the election, after an election how often the people you place your X for stops by your family

A multi million dollar facility was developed to attract cruise ships somehow this project have not generate enough income to fix the county for the residents

      poor roads
      Poor water
      Poor sewage
      Poor electricity

I have traveled the Caribbean over the years. The BVI rated the lowest in terms of infrastructures. No proper roads or water and sewage. I even rate Haiti's infrastructures over the BVI. Still both VIP and NDP steal more money than the GDP each year more than larger countries own. COI is here for a good reason.

a serious mistake was made when NDP was given the privilege to govern our country

some assume the group was well educated and anticipated a bright future for BVI under NDP

This distinguished group used their educational skills to accomplish personal gains while in public office

we love the group so much we gave them 2 back 2 back terms in government

If my memory serves me right, $8M was repurposed from the East End/Long Sewage Project to the Tortola Pier Park Project. Now, only $6.1M is earmarked for the project. Did the scope of the project changed? And if so why? The design, construction , inspection, O&M …..estimate must have changed since the project was first proposed. Does the recommissioning of the Paraquita Bay Treatment Plant entails operations and maintenance training and certification for staff? Recruiting and training operators and other personnel should be in progress or get underway soonest.

Bring your Public Works experience home and contribute to the infrastructure development. We keep spending money on roads, sewage…..etc and staying in the same place. No worthwhile progress. The piece process is not working. For all the invested/spent we should have the best infrastructure in the region. We should be first world, not still third world. $1B GDP, average $400M budget yet we barely threading water. As you like to say, the window of opportunity is closing fast.

While we are grateful for the commencement of this well needed project. I want to ask you folks who is sitting in government to use some wisdom and have some empathy for the public.
You were well aware that this project would begin on August 9th 2021. Wouldn't it not be wisdom to at least patch the road and smoothen the edges of the roads until you all can get it properly paved. Have some mercy on the drivers and their vehicles stop trying to send people to the mechanic shops unnecessarily you could have done better. Today I latterly had to try to go up on the side to allow a flat bed truck to get proper access with out him or me being injured. Almost burst my tires due to you all ignorance of not paving the road temporarily.
I say it yes me this is foolishness you all can do better hate me or love me. It does not change my position you lack wisdom.
