They both spoke at their school’s graduation held on Friday June 27, 2014 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Huntum's Ghut. Maduro and Glasgow placed 13th and 18th respectively in the Territory out of some 375 students writing the Primary Five examinations.
“My years spent at Enis Adams Primary School…I can definitely say have moulded me for what lies ahead,” said Salutatorian Shamorie Glasgow.
“I also would like to say a special thank you to all our parents and teachers of the Enis Adams Primary School. It is because of your efforts, hard work and dedication to the graduating class of 2014 that I am standing in front of you today as a humble and honoured Salutatorian,” she said.
“Fellow graduates, do not let anything distract you. You may be teased, pressured by your peers, bullied. But always remember you are special. You are a product of Enis Adams Primary School. Forever, you must set you goals and accomplish them and always strive for excellence,” she said.
She also encouraged her classmates who did not do so well in their exams not to give up. “I encourage you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and recreate yourself and do your best at Elmore Stoutt High School,” Glasgow encouraged.
Valedictorian Malika Maduro thanked her parents and siblings for their “harassment, guidance and determination” which helped her to be successful.
To all her teachers she said, “Without each one of you our accomplishments would not be celebrated today.”
To her fellow graduates, Maduro said, “Today we reach another milestone in our lives.” She called the graduation a bittersweet experience.
“We are leaving our home and the caring arms of our loving teachers. Many of us have been together for the past seven long years. However we will not dwell on the sadness of leaving but on the fun times Enis Adams Primary School gave us,” said Maduro.
