Dynamic leadership conference underway in VI
Speaking at on the radio programme "Umoja" recenly, former civil servant turned politician Shaina M. Smith said the conference, which commenced on Thursday October 20, 2011 would be addressing various areas of leadership and participants would be addressed by some eleven international speakers mostly by video recordings and three local presenters.
She also added it was the first time that Smith's and Associates, which she is the CEO and Ballast and Capel partnered to stage such an initiative which is being held under the theme "Voices of Change".
"It would be a unique experience not just an event because we are looking at building leadership capacities and when we say that we are not just talking about business leaders but also ministry leaders, community leaders, wherever areas of leadership there are in the Virgin Islands."
According to Mrs. Judy Jaycraft of Ballat and Capel, when people hear the word leader they tend to look up to the politicians and forget that they themselves are leaders in their own right whether in the household or in the church.
Smith also added that the conference will also be addressing persons who are interested in building their leadership skills based on respect and relationship rather than by right and position " which I think is a really big thing here in the BVI. We tend to think that we have to have a title to be deemed a leader, which is not the case and that impacts relationship between managers and employees, business owners and their employees all the time."
She said the local and international speakers would speak on influence, service, purpose and innovation and that participants will get opportunity to ask questions.
