ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The difference between dynamic leadership and mediocre leadership and keys to finding passion and unlocking creativity in the workplace are some of the areas that would be covered at a major leadership development conference being held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium.

Speaking at on the radio programme "Umoja" recenly, former civil servant turned politician Shaina M. Smith said the conference, which commenced on Thursday October 20, 2011 would be addressing various areas of leadership and participants would be addressed by some eleven international speakers mostly by video recordings and three local presenters.

She also added it was the first time that Smith's and Associates, which she is the CEO and Ballast and Capel partnered to stage such an initiative which is being held under the theme "Voices of Change".

"It would be a unique experience not just an event because we are looking at building leadership capacities and when we say that we are not just talking about business leaders but also ministry leaders, community leaders, wherever areas of leadership there are in the Virgin Islands."

According to Mrs. Judy Jaycraft of Ballat and Capel, when people hear the word leader they tend to look up to the politicians and forget that they themselves are leaders in their own right whether in the household or in the church.

Smith also added that the conference will also be addressing persons who are interested in building their leadership skills based on respect and relationship rather than by right and position " which I think is a really big thing here in the BVI. We tend to think that we have to have a title to be deemed a leader, which is not the case and that impacts relationship between managers and employees, business owners and their employees all the time."

She said the local and international speakers would speak on influence, service, purpose and innovation and that participants will get opportunity to ask questions.

Preston rejected them? LMAO!! You really uttered those foolish words? Preston's father, Lavity Stoutt was a founder and LEADER of the VIP and his son didn't even consider joining their team in any shape or form, what stupidness you talking about? LOL!! If it's anybody should feel bad is VIP! Lavity's own son doesn't support the party his father founded, THAT SAYS A LOT!!!!!!!!!! Be careful the foolishness you speak, it will come back and bite you!! If Shaina ran with NDP in the 1st and launched early in the year, she would've had a good chance of beating Andrew! Look at what the VIP did to Dancia's career! LOOK!!! Is she better off than she was four years ago? HELL NO! People have lost respect for her as she sat back and let those guys run the country to the ground. Shaina is smart enough not to study VIP with their nonsense! She was adamant about new leadership which I think is the reason for her to proceed with the 'new' party! If PPA sticks with it and introduce new young, passionate persons they may be a force to reckon with in the future. All that said, Preston may just buss Andrew's in the 1st District if he don't look out!!! If he beats Andrew then what you think he will do? He will join NDP!! You not as smart as you look eh Sparky? LOL!!

Understand what you are trying to say but Preston did not join neither the VIP nor the NDP........now that REALLY SAYS ALOT!! To assume which party Preston will join is premature as we do not know what the outcome will be overall.

Sweetheart have you forgotten that even Lavity's very own daughter was supporting the NDP last time (saying that today's VIP is not the same VIP as in her father's time). So a son of Lavity not supporting VIP or even supporting NDP isn't that much of a stretch.

sorry to tell you all my people these beautiful virgin islands that Stoutt did not reject the ndp one bit. all it is , is that he don't want anyone to know he is one of them . he is only pretending to be independent but truly he is going to align himself with them one day.they just don't want the public to know as yet. if you realy know his committee then you can realy say only who knows. his commitee members are the same ones who are behind the ndp, the same ones who put up archie to run against fahie in 2003 and 2007, and souppy in 1999. it takes a cat to fool a kitten not a kitten to fool a cat.

Hate to burst your bubble but Stoutt was and is always an independent candidate and his 'core' committee has not changed since moving from at-large to district. Stop spreading propoganda cause it will not get you anywhere! NDP used his late sister and even his cousin Elmore so take it from someone who has an idea; Preston does not want to go down that road. He has been an independent from the very beginning since his initial announcement earlier this year! Wheel and come again with your crap! Both major parties have serious baggage and in fighting that is disgusting to the whole voting population.

Mitchell - Did you fall and bump your head or are you just drunk on gossip? I hope voters will see this for what it is: silly rumors. Preston Stoutt is the only serious candidate in the race. VIP and NDP governments are broken. Preston, like his father, is leading the way to get the BVI going again.

Now hear this nonsense! Pure bull$hit from someone who probably does not even know the candidate and going off of rumours and gossip. Reality check is Preston neither aligned himself with the VIP or the NDP! I could only imagine both would love to have him on their team to have more weight for USING his father's name. I like the fact that he has chosen the independent route instead of being all caught up in the bull that is going on back and forth with the big parties. Mr. Stoutt if you reading this make sure to stick to the issues and you will surely BOMB the Brown Bummer!!!!! He has done nothing for the 1st district as a whole, just handouts to certain families which is so sad.
