ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Persons in the Virgin Islands (VI) who work to enhance public spaces across the Territory have been recognised by the Department of Waste Management (DWM).

The creativity and commitment of these individuals were celebrated during the DWM’s Annual Summer Beautification Programme ceremony on August 1, 2025, at the Sunday Morning Well in Road Town.

An investment in our people, culture & future

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R8), said, “When we take the time to care for and improve our surroundings, we are investing in more than just our environment- we are investing in our people, our culture, and our future.”

He commended all participants for showing pride in their districts and for setting an example of what it means to take ownership of our shared spaces.

Acting Director of Waste Management, Mr Levi Benjamin joined in the commendations praising the participants’ creativity and dedication. This year’s projects, he added, speak volumes about the passion and determination within the communities.

“Whether it was planting, painting, or restoring historic wells, each district brought its own vision to life. I am especially proud of the teamwork, skill, and community spirit displayed,” Mr Benjamin said.
