DWM halts derelict vehicle removal services until further notice

The Department of Waste Management (DWM) informed the public of this in a notice issued on Friday, October 3, 2025.
“Until we can reinstate our derelict removal services, we would like to encourage the community and wrecker services to cease and refrain from transporting derelict vehicles to the Havers Site,” Deputy Director of the DWM, Mr Levi Benjamin, said.
Exportation delays
Mr Benjamin explained that this interruption in the removal and storage of derelict vehicles is due to delays with exportation and the department’s pursuit to identify a long-term storage site that aligns with the Territory’s social and environmental requirements.
“We are currently in the middle of the tender process to source the land necessary, which will enable us to resume operations…We are also focusing our efforts on getting the already stockpiled derelicts out of the Territory. This will enable us to clean up and clear the current site in preparation to moving to the new site.”
He urged the public to abide by the department’s advice and refrain from taking derelicts to the Havers site until services are fully reinstated and the department can transfer its operations to the proposed site fully.
The department further asked the public for patience until the matter is solved and said it regrets any inconvenience caused.
