Duckworth/Lewis win for Vincy cricketers
Even with his late pyrotechnics, which had a large crowd on the edge of their seats and contained three sixes and four fours from the last 9 deliveries he faced, the Vincy boys had an anxious wait as the Umpires waited for a break in the rain and Duckworth/Lewis calculations were made.
With 23 balls remaining in their official chase off 177 for victory and the Umpires finally deciding to call the game off, the Vincy were adjudged to have been four runs ahead of the par score at 140 for 3 and awarded the 3 points.
Earlier, the Royal Knights had got themselves in a spot of batting bother, until Anthony Slowly powered his way to an unbeaten 52 to boost the score to a defendable 176 – 8. Kenrick Leslie and Roy Cain both picked up a couple of wickets. In reply and with Dennisford Brown struggling for runs, the Knights contributed to their own downfall with a string of dropped catches, after Ryan Mangal had taken a blinder at backward point to dismiss Leslie in the second over.
McDowall finished unbeaten on 61.
The win puts the Vincy all but in the semi finals, barring some mathematical run rate possibilities. It also means the Royal Knights will have to beat Earl Tree Shotters in their last group game and hope the Police stumble along the way. Of course the Shotters can also join the Vincy in the semi finals if they beat both Police and Knights.
Rain puts Cavaliers in a spot of bother
The mouth watering Group B clash between Grenada and the Vikings was completely washed out and puts both teams on four points with a game to go. However, after the game was called off, due to rain, the Nagico Green Caps were awarded to the current player with the Most Runs, 286, Derol Redhead and the Bowler with the Most Wickets, 11, Rodney Marryshow, both of Grenada C.C.
Through the gracious continued sponsorship of cricket in the VI, Nagico Insurances is also providing the player with the Most Runs and the Player with the Most Wickets at the end of the tournament, with prize money equalling $500 each.
Meanwhile, the rain-ruined game didn’t help the Cavaliers as they now have to win both their remaining games, including a match against Grenada, to progress. A loss to the New Testament Church of God on Sunday May 17, 2015 and they are effectively knocked out.
That game takes place at 11.00am and is followed by Police against Earl Tree Shotters at 3pm.
