CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI — A devastating car accident early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2024, on Weymouth Rhymer Highway in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) has claimed the lives of both the driver and passenger.

The vehicle, a silver Acura TSX, was being driven eastward by 28-year-old Vernon Ferris when he reportedly lost control. The car subsequently climbed the embankment off the shoulder of the eastbound lane and struck a tree on its right side.

According to the V.I. Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 12:52 a.m. between New Herrnhut Road and Donoe Road.

Both Ferris and his passenger, 29-year-old Tiniesha Smith, sustained fatal injuries from the impact, and authorities have notified next of kin.

The VIPD is investigating the cause of the accident.

Obviously no one was seriously injured and it was not news. This shouldn't have been in the news either. Do we really need to know there was an accident? Accidents happen every day. We don't know about them and we survive. People already depressed and disgusted living in this place. We don't need no more bad news that has no bearing on any of our lives in the BVI.

"Like" touched in error. I'm very sad to hear of the tragic loss of life of the two individuals in this horrific accident. My sympathies go out to the families of both of the victims. It is news, whether any of them is related to us or not. It could have been any of us. Let us remember the family members who are now faced with this traumatic event. I am soo sorry that such a fate befell them.

Even in death we are heartless. It doesn't matter where they are from. It could've been one of your loved ones. Let's remember the families and friends in our prayers.
