When I see cars driving right under trucks going up a hill, I think they must want to commit suicide. I stay wayyyyyy back and let the impatient ones go between me and the trucks. Not meh!

What smart civil engineer designed this steep ‘aka elevator’ road and which smarter civil engineer at Public Work approved it? Ok. Public Works is not currently led by an engineer and has not been led by an engineer for a while. Public Works is a technical function/ service and has traditionally been led by a civil engineer. The Elevator Road is dangerous and an incident waiting to happen, especially for heavily laden trucks, etc; it is problem in search of an incident. Furthermore, the road network in the VI is poorly designed, constructed, maintained, poorly connected, etc. The road system is vital in moving people, and goods; facilitating emergency vehicles, ie, police, fire, and ambulances; connecting villages, providing access to land, etc. Moreover, the lack of a road master plan results in steep incline roads being constructed, ie, Elevator Road, etc. To reduce the steep gradient, the road network, for the most part, should be designed in a circular fashion, as is done in other locales with hilly terrain. The road network has too many steep roads, blind curves ( both horizontal and vertical); there are no need for them, protecting life and property should be the goal. Just cutting , smoothing out, and laying down either asphalt or concrete pavement is poor, not proper road construction. Further, the poor design, and construction is exacerbated with poor maintenance and repair. With this trend, the near misses or heaven forbid worst may continue to occur. Moreover, the BVI needs a transportation master plan and the road design and construction and maintenance programmes needs to be revamped.

I thought truck traffic was stopped from ascending that hill. Or is it only cement trucks??

This road seems to be problematic. From the picture such heavy duty trucks will be straining to get up there. Even on other hills on the island, government needs to evaluate these spots and have them brake down lower. One such area is cane garden bay, up snd down, and the hill to beef island through Parham town . Test the hills first before opening to public

I traverse that hill on a daily basis and does so prayerfully. I am quite nervous sometimes because many drivers who leave home late and trying to get their early drive like idiots on that hill. They seem to forget that these man made vehicles we are driving in malfunction. I put in my first gear and I take my time going down and coming up that hill, but unfortunately, some impatient persons is always riding on your back, especially in the mornings. Thank God for taking us safely each day. In fact all of the roads we have that problem where people are impatient with others on the road as they are breaking the speed limit daily full speed for no reason. Sometimes I smile when they pass me, because I run right back into them further up the road. Drive carefully and not always like you are against the clock. Get up earlier and be patient with other drivers on the road.

There is a bar across the road to prevent large vehicles from traversing up that hill for a reason. It is not safe for them or other drivers.

All about mindset. Get up early sure but if I happen to be late Im not putting my life on the line speeding to anyone's job. Seen enough, the HR people telling you must come early are the same ones keeping you down when you do everything right. Seeing them in the news all now.

Dont risk your life or those around you for some dumb approval from someone or group that cares little about you.
