Dr Wheatley has too much of national agenda to focus on D7- Kevon S. Lettsome

- accuses Premier Natalio D. Wheatley of neglecting Seventh District
Speaking on the January 9, 2022, edition of the Umoja Show, Mr Lettsome said the current neglect in the district presents an opportunity for a candidate like himself to bring representation for the people, after years of abandonment by its current and past leaders elected to serve on behalf of the people. BAUGHER'S BAY, Tortola, VI– Seventh District political candidate in the 2023 election, Kevon S. Lettsome has criticised current Premier and Seventh District Representative Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley as having too much of a portfolio-driven national agenda to be able to adequately make a positive impact in the district he represents.

Speaking on the January 9, 2022, edition of the Umoja Show, with host Cromwell Smith aka 'Edju En ka', Mr Lettsome said the current neglect in the district presents an opportunity for a candidate like himself to bring representation for the people, after years of abandonment by its current and past leaders elected to serve on behalf of the people.

Focus on district- Lettsome

“In the past, we have tried doctors, we have tried the most educated, we have tried the best speakers… persons who can look the part and dress the part and I have viewed those persons before me and even the now premier as persons who have national ambitions and a portfolio person.”

“I believe that District 7 needs someone who will focus on the district, has time for the district, and who is actually from the district and understand the district’s pain,” he added.

According to Lettsome, he is the victim of the many issues in the district.

“I just want to give my peers, my family, my friends, a valuable option to vote for someone who understands their problems… because they have gone through and even gone through some of the same issues and problems that are still there presently,” he said.

Man of the People

Pointing to a myriad of issues, he said the district is plagued by beautification issues and other such as economic, healthcare, infrastructure, and even recreational issues.

Mr Lettsome said the time for national ambitions will come in reference to Dr the Hon Wheatley; however, the needs of the district and its myriad of issues must also be addressed.

“Those things need to be addressed urgently and they need urgent attention and I personally and strongly believe right now District Seven doesn’t need anyone who is portfolio driven,” he said.

Lettsome further added that when persons from the district see him in the House of Assembly, they will see themselves being represented.

young lettsome: let me say this to you any concerns you have with that district did not begin in 2019. if you are serious focus the conversation on what you are capable doing for the development on this county

All nine districts make up our county so expand your vision and when you get an opportunity sit with the former district leader

There will be no district 7 or any district if he doesn't get the National agenda resolved so whoever is advising this guy is selfish or don't understand what is taking place.

The current governance model for the VI is not a good fit. It needs overhauling.

How he handled the integrity of the youth Parliament and other areas is any indication of how he will represent us then I will take my chances with the slow but steady man.

I do not understand some people. They had a rep for 20yrs that did nothing. Give Wheatley another term at least.

He clearly has an articulate political advisor and consultant working with him but they are not on the ground dealing with reality. The BVI is in the fight for its life due to modern day high handed tactics aimed at usurping democracy but calling it help. He needs to get with reality. This is bigger than his narrow minded view.

His political handlers told him to put this out there so they can get a feeling of the response to know how to adjust but my sound advice to them is find another profession for this young gentleman. It is in his best interest.

Shak is right but he is not the answer . You are not seeking office for the right reasons. You have other motives… Both you and M. Crabb. ????

Despite concerns about certain things, we must also be fair and balanced. The Government took office in the wake of the damages of two catastrophic category 5 hurricanes where not much of the damage was fixed prior to them taking office including the effects to the economy both public and private sector. There is still more to do on this end, but since taking office this government did fix many of the public roads and infrastructure and schools that were damaged. If this was not challenging enough for them to deal with as soon as they took office, up comes the worse pandemic in the last 100yrs which rock all country's governments & economies up to this present time. There was no play book to tell how to handle this pandemic for no government to use as this pandemic & its effects, especially financially, baffled all leaders. The government handled it well compared to other governments worldwide (large & small) and their efforts saved many of our lives & the economy from tanking out. While dealing with all of this the UK imposed a COI that leaves a lot of debate over the timing and processes used and transparency and real intent. Nevertheless, the government has done fairly well under all these circumstances and if anyone be fair then they cannot say otherwise.

Well said. We all needed this reminder as some want us to think the things mentioned were not factors that create most of our challenges up the present times.

The BVI is 24 sq miles so the entire district talk is just bullsh**! What the BVI needs is a different system of Government where Ministers should be At-large candidates and District Candidates not allowed to be Ministers holding portfolios. Their job would be to focus on their district and lobby Ministers to handle whatever issues they may have. It's a simple fix but nobody wants to change anything, we just want to talk sh** all day. This young man is talking a good talk but how would he pay for the things he is seeking to do in his District? The BVI needs a NATIONAL PLAN not a District by District plan. The National Plan would take into consideration specific needs that certain districts may have but this combative, segregation bullsh** is why the Territory is failing. Develop a 25 year National Plan, set it in stone and watch the place grow. Alternatively, we can listen to power hungry people make promises every four years and buy into their bullsh**. Don't just change the players, TIME TO CHANGE THE @&^% GAME!

One thing I've learn living my entire life in the BVI is that when your not the popular one or the person people want to see success come to, they will tear you down just to have their friends in who has no love for the country. Because of that mindset islands like St Lucia and cayman islands has left the BVI in the dust. Mr Wheatley has been doing an awesome job but because its not their big friends doing it, they are sour! Our budget is almost half a billion dollars and there is nothing to show for it because the mindset of the people living in the BVI constantly keep voting friends vs leaders . I Pray the 7th district continue to Support Mr Wheatley as he push this country forward with the little time he had as premier. THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP MR WHEATLEY TO HANDLE OUR NATIONAL AGENDAS!!!

One of the most sensible comments I've seen so far. These self seeking clueless dimwits trying to deceive the electorate need to get a life. We need to weed out some that are there rather than adding to the mess. Hope the electorate step up to the challenge as these stupid games are what have brought us to this mess. When all is said and done the truth remains we could not continue down the same road of a bunch of village gangs fighting to control the cookie jar. A system needs to be put in place where we can never revert to this illiteracy ever again.

Were you living on another planet or in another country? We are now under a corrupt government and have been under several of them before this one, and every single one of those men and women was WAY over 35 years of age. So please go back and revamp your statement, sir/madam... Don't conclude by looking like an idiot.
