ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has listed a number of countries, including the USA, US Virgin Islands, United Kingdom and Dominican Republic, where travel to the Virgin Islands is currently prohibited.

The list is included in the Immigration and Passport (Prohibition of Entry) (No. 7) Order, 2020. (2) published in the Virgin Islands Official Gazette today, June 2, 2020, the same day the Order comes into force.

According to the Order, “A person visiting the Virgin Islands from or through any of the countries listed in the Schedule to these Regulations, shall be prohibited from entering the Virgin Islands from the date this Order comes into force until the 16th day of June, 2020, unless the time period prescribed herein is extended by the Governor by Order after consultation with the Minister, for such further period as may be specified."

Exemptions

Virgin Islanders, Belongers, Permanent Residents and Naturalized Citizens to the Territory are exempted from this Order.

Cabinet had previously decided that from June 2 up to June 15, 2020, the first priority will be given to the re-entry of nationals, belongers, holders of permanent residence and naturalised citizens, who upon registration and certification by the Environmental Health Division, are deemed to have approved private quarantinable accommodation for occupancy for at least a 14-day-period.

Meanwhile, the countries listed seem to be those that have been grappling to contain or have failed to properly manage the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19.

@Trump, Stop trivializing the Black Lives Matter Movement. This has nothing to do with the seriousness that is going on in the world. This is about our Government trying to still keep us safe from the virus! So far their moves for our safety has been A 1.

There is no awful prejudice in the BVI. What we have is an awful blogger who is saying awful things so that we can have awful responses. Such comments should be ignored at all times or we also become a part of the problem by using harsh words towards each other.

There will be no perfect opening of any ports, you open tomorrow or you open next year, the challenges going to be the same, you have to put things in place, adjust and fix as we go along, that's why i think the earlier you open up is better.. u have time to fix and adjust so when the rush comes you have everything in place to deal with it...

The hilarious thing about this all is the fact that it’ll be the islanders and belongers spreading it all around, there’s no way they will quarantine...get ready for that new regular

@Tonkin: As a Virgin Islander living overseas for several years I feel led to pray for my fellow BVIslanders. Especially for the ignorance and stupidity highlighted in some of these comments by the few seemingly uneducated Less travelled ones. My heart bleeds every time I read some of the ignorant comments on these local sites. I imagine those who live abroad including potential who view these comments share the same sentiments as I do.

So because you have been fortunate to travel and live abroad as a BVI islander you think or feel that you are more educated than does that are home , remember and don't forget we're are the ones along with persons from down island have buiit this place while you left searching for that easy life and it's jealously on your behalf, and even though we might not be educated to your standard we have accomplished a lot and have manage to own businesses and home's

The premier allowed a few select ones in after shut down, they agreed to quarantine before they arrived but once in they refused point blank to do so because of their status. You are correct, it is very sad.

BVI UNGRATEFUL, get out of here with your nonsense.

The USVI/USA immediately banned BVIslanders with visas or visa waivers from going there, and afterwards Home Depot refused to send building supplies to BVI.

The UK assisted, and that was their obligation. But Haiti was not obligated and they helped us, I salute the mighty people of Haiti.

I'm sure you're all aware of all the protesting/rioting/looting going on in the US right now. Huge crowds of people assembling. All of a sudden, the governors/mayors are not worried about Covid and are letting it all happen. They won't let people get a haircut, but it's ok to assemble in large groups for that. Your need tourists for your economy. Just questioning the lock downs and subsequent economic destruction that probably never needed to happen in the 1st place. Covid is not a death sentence like Ebola (see other story on this website).
  • Don’t bother with facts (03/06/2020, 14:04) Like (1) Dislike (1) Reply
US VIs? Really? Check VI dept of health data. No new community cases since April.
UK, sure if they are coming from UK, but many UK citizens don’t live there.
US, sure if you’re coming from NY or other states. West coast states managed quote well.
But, easier not to think things through or bother with the facts. There is no re-opening anywhere without some level of risk, zero virus risk is only attainable by remaining permanently closed which increases the risk of a failed economy. By the time BVIs wakes up, tourists will have found other places to go. Good luck with getting them back.
