ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr The Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is currently acting in the capacity of Premier while current Premier and Minister of Finance, Honorable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) is away from the Territory on personal leave.

Premier Fahie’s leave is expected to run until June 9, 2021, paving the way for Hon Wheatley to act in his capacity effective today, May 28, 2021, until Premier Fahie returns. 

A release from GIS indicated that Hon Wheatley’s appointment came in accordance with Section 55 (1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007.

“If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorize the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier,” the constitution states.

    what will be impact to some of the key decision that needs to be made around openning up the VI and about letting cruise ships come in ... will he be "allowed" to make those decisions? will he have the guts or are we on hold till June 9?
