Dr Karl Dawson tipped to represent D1 in 2023 general elections with VIP
The matter must now be ratified by the VIP Congress.
Mr Dawson, who has lived in the first district for years, is now the front runner as District 1 remains a VIP stronghold. The founder of the VIP, the late Chief Minister H. Lavity Stoutt, was from D1.
It is unclear when the party that won the 2019 general elections led by former legislator Andrew A. Fahie will hold another congress meeting.
Dr Dawson, a former President of the H. L. Stoutt Community College and the Anguilla Community College, was recently a consultant to the Ministry of Education.
Mr Dawson also contested the 2015 general election as an At Large Candidate where he came in fifth, as the then National Democratic Party took all four seats.
Mr Dawson, a Methodist and indigenous Virgin Islander, did not respond to our request for comment.
Former President of the First District Committee Mr Nathaniel Issac Sr did not deny the reports but referred us to President of the VIP First District Committee Mr Duncan Williams who declined to comment.
Virgin Islands Party Chairman Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) also did not respond to our request for comment.
Hon Smith back in the race!
Meanwhile, the same VIP sources told our news centre that Honourable Neville A. Smith (AL), who is also the Deputy Speaker, will be a candidate in the 2023 elections.
Hon Smith, who did not respond to our request for comment, had told several key supporters earlier this year that he will not run but has since changed his mind and will be back in the race with the VIP At Large team.

And I just can't see how Dr. Dawson is still aligned with this party especially since hes now a minister in the church. It surely does not speak well for him.

I have nothing personal against Dr. Dawson, but we have to remember that everything this man touches seems to fail. Just take a look at his track record, the H. Lavity Stoutt College under his leadership failed. The educational institution was almost not going to be recognized as an accredited institution because of its poor leadership with Dr. Dawson. Then he left the BVI and went away to lead another university and did not last long there, he failed again. Now as Deputy Chairman of the Hospital, look at the state of that healthcare institution since he has been there as one of the top leaders. It is worst off than it was under any previous board leadership. In addition to that, they just instate him as a pastor, why as a pastor would he be getting himself aligned with politics? Is it that they like to continue dwelling in the realm of evil? I am from the first district and there is no way that I will support him. I will use wisdom on this one and pass. Then they have the other guy there as deputy speaker who has just been in the house sitting on the sidelines not doing anything over the last four years other than making free money from the Government. This is wrong and I would encourage all of you who may consider voting for any of these people to please refrain from doing so, especially if you want to move in a positive and productive direction.
