Dr Hanley assumes Acting PM role as Dr. Drew remains under medical observation

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts & Nevis- Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley has been appointed as the Acting Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis during the time that Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is under specialised observation abroad. The Cabinet Secretariat has announced that in addition to being appointed the acting Prime Minister, Dr Hanley will also handle the responsibility for the Ministries of Finance, Health, and Human Resource Management and Social Security.

Dr Hanley will be taking up the responsibility for the Ministries in addition to the responsibilities of the Ministries he already handles.

Garth Wilkin, who serves the government of St Kitts and Nevis in the capacity of Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, will assume responsibility for National Security, Citizenship and Immigration.

The temporary appointments have been announced to make sure that the crucial functioning of the government continues without disruption. The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is currently under special medical care following the directive of his physicians.

The government of St. Kitts and Nevis has confirmed that Dr Drew is in a stable condition at the medical facility. The Government has also extended their gratitude to the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis, regional and international partners who have continued to send messages of support and prayer. The Prime Ministers and political leaders of various nations across the Caribbean region have extended good wishes, prayers and support. The government is constantly monitoring the Prime Minister’s health and regular updates on the same have been shared from time to time in the last 36 hours.

The government of St. Kitts and Nevis has said that they are constantly praying for the wellbeing of their leader and his family as he continues to receive medical support.

Dr Geoffrey Hanley, who addressed the country on Monday at 7:00 PM to share an update on Dr Drew’s health, urged the people to keep their leader in prayers and stay away from engaging in gossip and spreading or believing in rumours.
