Dr Arlene L. Smith-Thompson to run for office as Territorial At-Large candidate
The former Vice President for Academic Affairs at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC), who had stated in August 2026 that she was seriously considering running for office, made the “official” announcement via Facebook today, Monday, September 14, 2026.
Launch speech today
“I wish to publicly inform you all that I will be contesting the next general elections in the Virgin Islands as an Independent At-Large candidate,” Dr Smith-Thompson declared, adding that her official launch speech will be aired on JTV Channel 55 and CBN Broadcasting at 11:00 AM today.
“As I embark upon another step of my life's journey, I remain thankful to God for His many blessings. To my spiritual advisors, family members, friends, and mentees, thanks for the important roles you have all played on the journey to my becoming. I appreciate you all,” Dr Smith-Thompson stated.
The former schoolteacher and mentor had contested unsuccessfully for the Third District Seat with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) in the 2019 general elections.

Candidates do not NEED a patty for decades we've seen this, are we pleased?? NO! INDEPENDENT is the way to go.
One of the many things that makes no good sense is that new inexperienced candidates without political knowledge running as territorial representatives in the British Virgin Islands. The territorial representation was meant to better represent all of the people of the British, but so far it has failed to profit all of the people of the British Virgin Islands positively because district representatives of lesser votes receivers dominates the political arena.
Posible the next soon to come general elections to be held in the British Virgin Islands may very well be the last opportunity for us, locals and belongers, to save the British Virgin Islands from complete take over from money ravenous greedy hawkish minded intruders, but also from local and belongers of the British Virgin Islands.
Her association with VIP has to be a huge question mark.
New? Fresh? Different?
The evidence of common sense, if the voters in the B.V.I Voted from office all thirteen of their experiences political leaders, and replaced them with thirteen inexperienced ones would be sheer stupidity, in my honest opinion. By regular pracice most that have casted their vote last election proved themselves ignorant or void good judgment, but to repeat the same error next general elections coming next year, 2027, would be nothing short of pure ignorance, both knowing and unknowing.
Over the three plus decades, especially the last two, higher education knowledge has not brought us good governance, because more knowledgeable political are equipped with more no how, and have used legal tactics against us for personal purposes, in my honest opinion. However I do hope the new candidates for the coming next general elections would be educationally knowledgeable, but moreso honest leaders, if elected to political leadership position.
