ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It was in 2022, following the arrest of former Premier Andrew A. Fahie, that the then Director of International Relations, Ms Najan Christopher, wrote a letter stating that Mr Fahie, at the time of his arrest, was the Head of Government of the Virgin Islands.

It is believed it was done with the full knowledge of her immediate supervisor, the Permanent Secretary.  However, because Ms Christopher was perceived to be close to Mr Fahie, she was placed on a witch-hunt list and arrested and charged for simply writing the letter.

Breach of Trust?

Their bogus charge was Breach of Trust. It was clear from day one that there was no case to answer, and it was nothing more than a public officer doing their job, who was targeted like so many others on the list following Mr Fahie's arrest and the one-man Commission of Inquiry.

The Magistrate Court tossed out the trumped-up charges and made clear Ms Christopher had no case to answer.  The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mrs Tiffany R. Scatliffe-Esprit, it is alleged, was forced to appeal.

Now the DPP has found her moral compass, and on May 19, 2026, filed a notice to discontinue the appeal, meaning the matter is now closed. It is unclear if Ms Christopher will now return to her government post after the deliberate character assassination and funds spent on lawyers.

Millions and Millions spent to lock up locals

It was discovered that over two million dollars have been spent on these witch-hunt cases to pay two United Kingdom (UK) Attorneys, Sandip Patel KC and John Black KC. The over two million already spent does not include the appeals and other perks. Millions and millions of taxpayers' dollars were paid out to put Lorna Stevens, Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6), Wade N. Smith, Julian Willock, Pamphil Prevost, Simon Powers, Marley Sebastian, Claude O. Skeleton-Cline and Najan Christopher in jail.

However, all cases are expected to fail even on appeal, according to most legal experts, because of the weak evidence and local police whistleblowers who have spoken about the objectives of these charges.
