‘Don’t disrespect the Doctor’- Pastor & resignation lyrics hits airwaves
The song that has been sent to our newsroom was first played on air by Paul A. Peart aka ‘Gadiethz’ earlier this week on his International Morning Ride Show on ZROD 103.7 FM.
Mr Peart told his radio listeners that the one track tune was left under the door at ZROD Radio Station in Road Town.
Pastor & Doctor! Who had to resign?
The Calypso track in grand Caribbean style, with a ‘workup’ dance beat, appears to be making good light and social commentary about a resent topical issue in which a Pastor was forced to resign from a Statutory Board in the Virgin Islands.
The singer, who we will assume is unknown at this time, warned a Pastor who got into a confrontation with a Doctor “don’t’ never disrespect dey Doctor…. because when you feeling ill it’s the Doctor who prescribes the pill…”
The singer, in his funny but suggestive lyrics, said “after all the doctor did for the pastor and his congregation you on the radio talking about a new direction…never bite the hands that feed you…”
In an air of allusive mockery, the artiste in his song said “man of the cloth got upset tell the Doctor about his wife how he hear he ah rule his life, matter ah fact you fast asleep that the talk on the street, doctor start to feel a way and the pastor lost his job the same way….don’t disrespect the doctor …” the tune continued.
The tune is very witty and satirical and in social commentary tradition. The singer warned “no no no never disrespect the doctor...Why? When you in a drought he put food in your mouth, that house on the hill that your cousin build…never bite the hand that feed you.”
As the song continues in its high poetic form, the singer in a jovial manner speaks to the consequences of disrespecting the Doctor. This could lead to having a pastor telling “the congregation today the lord said that I shall resign…but is this a kind of victimisation? The pastor should have pleaded the fifth...”
Boss Freeman & Jevaughn J. 'JJ' Parsons: ‘It’s not me’
The simple rhyme scheme is amply compensated for by the highly imaginative original use of topical language. For example, the male singer said “the community was in an uproar, a pastor who is held so high, head was on the floor…many think the doctor soft and always loss…he can’t mash an ant, not even home he ah wear the pants. It does not matter if you feel that way there are certain things you can’t say..never disrespect the doctor…”
The singer both sets his verse to a stock melody while at the same time invents a tune of his own. He ended the song advising over and over “don’t ever disrespect the doctor …it can cause you to resign…”
Our news room reached out to popular singer and song writer Eustace ‘Boss’ Freeman who had no comment but claimed “I was not the signer of the song…not sure who sang it.”
We also contacted reigning Soca Monarch Jevaughn J. 'JJ' Parsons, who has sung calypso in the past, but he too denied being the singer. “I’ve heard the song but it wasn’t me at all….not sure at all who sang that one.”
Many believe that the singer in his almost six-minute music was referring to the topical political issue recently where the Chairman of the BVH Health Services Authority Board was forced out by the Premier. However, each artiste has their own interpretation or meaning to what they sing therefore a definite conclusion cannot be drawn.

That song sweet mehson. Between that song and VINO Cartoon, my belly full a melee for the weekend. If me and my partner them could only get into Tonic place now without stepping into knee high mud, that could be the start of a good weekend.
NDP Fix your pipes at Tonic Bar and Grill. Please! This is a Weekend Emergency!
The Doc must like it as it does favor him as it makes him appear strong and all powerful. Listen to the refrain: Don't disrespect the Doc...He fed you, he help your cousin to build the house on the hill etc. This could be almost a campaign song for the Doc. It also makes the Pastor look ungrateful and opportunistic.
I understand that the anonymous Singer maybe fearful of victimization due to his government work but I really do not see why he should be fearful for this song which seems to glorify and rationalize the Doc's actions.
Good show and in time we will figure out who the lead singer is. Sounds like a boss! Good potential.
Literally? Lyrically there is nothing special in terms of double meaning, sarcasm, metaphorical about the calypso. A bit too fast but that is his style. Don't get carried away this is not that special. It is a good effort but far from special. I am a Kaiso enthusiast so trust me I follow this a lot.
Also in an attempt not to step on the Doc's foot the Singer appears to have written a song rationalizing to the extent of glorifying the Doc's actions. Why you think he is acting under the cloak of anonymity? The Doc has been criticized by many of being soft so it makes him look strong and tough. This is a good campaign song for him, that is all.
That is your interpretation but based on the writer's consistent mention of the Pastor's apparent betrayal and ungrateful behavior then if victimization was his intention then he may have unintentionally made the Pastor the villain. In other words, it backfired.
Again I see no reason for him to hide his identity. BTW If you go to Facebook you will see that the alleged anonymous singer on 17th January on his facebook page posted a link of a story on VI everything with his name and picture as the singer of the controversial song. So much for his anonymity.
