MOUNT HEALTHY, Tortola, VI- The issue of animals being poisoned in the Virgin Islands has come to light again with the recent suspected poisoning of two pups at Mount Healthy on Tortola on May 8, 2021.

The dogs, a Shih Tzu and a Yorkie, belonged to talk show host Rosemary Cindy Rosan-Jones.

“My dogs were murdered this morning. Stay tuned for the full story, names and ramifications,” Rosan-Jones wrote on her Facebook page on May 8, 2021, alongside photos of two dogs that appeared to be lifeless and with froth on their mouths.

Rat poison suspected

Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online, Rosan-Jones said the dogs, not yet a year old, were suspected to have been given food laced with rat poison.

“I know the dogs were poisoned based on their distress and the property was laced with a substance that appears to be rat poison.”

According to Rosan-Jones, what is equally heart-rending is that her young children saw the pups in their dying moments. “How do you explain such human heartlessness to them?” she asked rhetorically, adding that her children are absolutely devasted.

“My daughter woke up crying. All day she is regretting sending the dogs out to relieve themselves.”

Children’s lives were put in danger- Rosan-Jones

Further, Rosan-Jones is furious that her children’s lives were put in danger, adding that a veterinarian advised her that the children could have been affected by the poison.

According to Rosan-Jones, where she lives is private property and the cruel act could have only been done by other tenants or persons with access to the property. She noted; however, that a particular individual had threatened to harm her dogs.

She said a report was made to police and officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) are looking into the matter.

Stiffer penalties needed

Rosan-Jones also said she has already started to lobby for stiffer penalties for cruelty to animals. “I’ve spoken to every elected member via WhatsApp, and laws, as it relates to animal cruelty, must carry stiffer penalties.”

Poisoning of animals, particularly dogs, has been a frequent occurrence in the Mount Healthy area.

It’s news because this poison could have come into contact with the dog owner’s kids, also killing them in the outcome. God have mercy on your dumb comment about why is this news? Hope you think about if it was your kids and their pets. Hopefully, you don’t have any kids who have puppies- your sadistic remarks.

If she had them on a leash, picking up after them, this would not have happened. You cannot share living space with other tenants and just allow your dogs to go. Like your children, you are also responsible for your pets. Learn from this traumatic experience.

I HAVE A MALTESE AND IF SOMEONE KILL MY DOG I WOULD LOSE IT. SOMEONE THAT DON’T LIKE CINDY DID THAT TO HURT HER AND HER CHILDREN. I WOULD AGREE, WE ARE LIVING AROUND A BUNCH OF JUNGLE SAVAGES IN THE BVI.

It’s news because instead of her dogs, it could have been her children. Tortola is now a very wicked place in every sense of the word wicked.

Imagine the bag of money drop and you still shoot. Look at the way that man was gunned down in broad daylight in Fish Bay. The young Moses girl was gunned down and killers walking among you still not caught. The man drawn out of the waters hands and feet tied. The endless other violence and theft. Do I need to say more?

    • How do you know? (10/05/2021, 13:58) Like (12) Dislike (4) Reply
What property? The dogs went roaming, without supervision and ate something they had no business eating. Negligence of the owner. No one set poison on her property which would have been her porch and driveway to her apartment. If she had kept the dogs in her area the dogs would have been fine.

Are there laws in the VI regarding dogs and keeping them on leash.
Do you send your dogs out to " go" in prop e rty you do not own and is used by a community.
Do you remove the dogs ' poop .
Must be traumatic and heartbreaking for the owner.
    My sympathy wholeheartedly .
Moral of story ...keep your personal safe and list especially if there has bern issues with your neighbors regarding your pets.

I hope when the person responsible is driving the faces of the dogs appear in the windshield blinding them sending their car over a rocky cliff in a ball of fire.

Another angle to look at this is These little dogs have a high pitch yap yap yap all of the time and it doesn't seem to bother the owners, but drive the neighbors insane. If she was asked to keep the dogs quiet so the neighbors can have peace and quiet, and she didn't do anything about it, that could be a reason. Sleep deprivation and constant barking will push anyone over the edge.

That is really pain but in life,we must look inward and take responsibility quite often. Your pets safety and well being is solely your responsibility. Based on a very heated and lengthy exch5 range headed by Ms Rosan not too long ago it was evident that her and her pets were not in good standing with neighbors where they resided. Good reason to excercise diligence in curbing and accompanying your pets outdoors and on a leash. Mainly because you wished to be a good neighbor. To. do otherwise sends a message of not giving a hoot about your neighbor or your pets.

Neighbourliness in BVI needs addressing in general and only government can do it.
    Dog poisoning
Off the lead dog walk and pooping in new access roads
    Relentless dog barking
    dog filth on beaches
Letting dogs defecate public parks where children play and people picnic
Parking along access roads so people can hardly pass
Blocking access road to do personal construction
Other people parking and storing items on your property without permission
Vendor free for all in town
Roadside boat parking and personal car collection storage
Burning rather than paying to remove garbage
Suffocating neighbors with garbage burning smoke
    Moving of boundary markers
    Undermining access roads
    And the list goes on
THE PEOPLE KEEP DOING WHAT THEY WANT BECAUSE THERE IS ZERO ENFORCEMENT AND TOTAL DISREGARD FOR LAW AND ORDER

Stick with the designer bags and leave the designer dogs for rich and humane folks.

JUNGLE SAVAGES  has no place in the discourse of categorizing BVIslanders. It is only a racist devil and tug who will engage in such dogma.

“My daughter woke up crying. All day she is regretting sending the dogs out to relieve themselves.” So this means the dogs were off leach and not in the control of the owners. How can she say someone particularly poison her dogs, will fully? If someone was with the dogs then they should not have been allowed to pick up anything and eat. Also, what mother suspecting her dogs were poisoned, would allow their children to be touching a dead dog. Not my children, family pet of not. I protect my children, period. This is a case of poor negligence. I am sure that she was warned on many occasions to keep her dogs leashed. She is a tenant not the owner of the property, as the article stated, she should have had better control of her dogs. Some people fear dogs and those small little dogs love to rush at people. Size means nothing, those teeth are sharp. Blaming someone for her negligence is devious and posting pictures of her crying children to gain sympathy is just for media attention.

Rosan you can not walk with such pride and think you are better than others and paying rent like me a wee down island boy. People like you should have your 10 bedroom, 20 bathroom, 10 acres mansion on the heights hill, looking down on people. How you and I can be on the same level paying rent?
