‘Do not be afraid of external examinations’ – Hon Myron V. Walwyn
“Do not be afraid of writing external exams…they are another way of us validating how our system is,” said Hon Walwyn. “If there are problems with what we see our job is to go in and fix those problems,” he said.
The Minister made the comments while delivering remarks at the graduation of the Elmore Stoutt High School held yesterday June 26, 2014 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex. Some 153 students graduated from the institution.
“We should not be afraid of writing external examinations and I want to congratulate the students for their courage today for writing the [Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate] (CSEC) examinations,” the Minister said.
The Minister pointed out that a number of the graduating students wrote CSEC examinations, some writing as many as 10 and 11 subjects and were now awaiting results.
Speaking at the graduation, Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith encouraged the students to continue their excellence, saying that the process does not stop with the graduation ceremony.
“Indeed, the record will show that the School continues to produce high-caliber students who can excel among their peers and become productive, contributing members of our society, and the world,” he said.
“So today we gather at this graduation ceremony to celebrate this milestone with each of you. We are here because of your commitment to excellence and your commitment to achieving your academic goals,” he said.
“But it does not stop with this ceremony; in fact, today is a new chapter in the book of your lives. It marks a new opportunity to pursue and prepare for your destiny in leaps and bounds,” the Hon Premier said.
“Destiny is defined as events that will happen in the future which affect our lives. In fact, some would venture to say that we are the craftsmen of our own destiny,” the Hon Premier said to the graduating class.
