DMV to sell 100 pairs of Lions Club branded vehicle license plates

- as part of 50th Anniversary Commemorative initiative for Lions Club of Tortola

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Ryner (R5) has approved a Commemorative Motor Vehicle Registration Plate to be used on motor vehicles for personal use as part of the 50th Anniversary of Lions Club of Tortola in April 2022.

According to the minutes of of the Cabinet meeting of March 30, 2022, the approval of the licence plates is pursuant to regulation 6A(5) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicle Registration and Operation and Driver and Vehicle Licensing) Regulations; and decided that:

“A maximum of one hundred (100) pairs of plates of the 50th Anniversary of Lions Club of Tortola Commemorative Motor Vehicle Registration Plates be issued pursuant to regulation 6A(6) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicle Registration and Operation and Driver and Vehicle Licensing) Regulations,” the minutes noted.

$150 per pair for plates 

According to information, the Department of Motor Vehicles will sell the commemorative Plates at a fee of $150 per pair of plates, as proposed by the Lions Club of Tortola and subject to the approval of the imposition of the fee by order of the Cabinet pursuant to section 3 of the Statutory Rates, Fees and Charges Act, 2005, part 39- Road Traffic Fees.

As part of revenues generated, the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities will pay a maximum of $10,000.00, at a rate of $150.00 per pair of plates, to the Lions Club of Tortola from the revenue generated by the sale of the plates, with the difference of five thousand ($5,000.00), at a rate of fifty dollars ($50.00) per pair of plates (25%) of the total sales, to be retained by the DMV towards the administrative costs of procuring the stock of plates.

The Lions Club of Tortola was chartered on April 27, 1972, and April 2022 marks 50 years of continuous service in the VI.

      So let me get this straight. If you go out and help someone and doing community service with your friends........... are you part of a quote on quote Lodge? You people need to educate yourselves before posting S*** you don't know about.

    So if I bought a pair of these plates, what is the purpose? Who and what am I promoting? Is this a fundraising drive for the Lions Club and the Ministry of Transport? Can any other organization or business or even the Church promote their cause by the use of licensing plates?
