DMV reminds of re-implementation of Derelict Vehicle Disposal Fee beginning Sept. 1

This programme aims to enhance the cleanliness and safety of our communities by effectively managing the removal of abandoned and unusable vehicles from the Territory.
The initiative was first announced on June 12, 2025, and the public was reminded on August 24, 2025, by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) via a Facebook post.
Category & Fees
The fees associated with this initiative are structured according to the weight of the vehicles, categorised as follows: Category A: This includes vehicles that weigh between 1,500 pounds and 3,000 pounds. Owners of these vehicles will be charged a fee of $60.00. Category B: For vehicles that fall in the weight range of 3,001 pounds to 6,000 pounds, the fee will be $85.00. Category C: Any vehicle that exceeds 6,000 pounds will incur a fee of $125.00.
These disposal fees will be collected at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when vehicle owners go through the licensing process.
Importantly, according to DMV, this payment is a one-time fee that covers the disposal needs for the vehicle throughout its lifespan.
The government is seeking the support and cooperation of all Virgin Islanders in this initiative, emphasising the community’s shared responsibility to help keep the Virgin Islands clean and safe for everyone, and solicits the participation of Virgin Islanders in this programme to ensure a healthier environment and a more pleasant living space for all residents.

Since hurricane Erma structed the B.V.I by high intensity category 5 plus destructive wirl winds, September 6, 2017, less than 8 years shy of today under ther NDP Cabinet that was pushed from power, February 19, 2019, if my memory served me right, it was the VIP government leadership that took power, under the previous Premier, Andrew Fahie, whose deputy Premier then is now is our current Premier.
That means that direlect vehicle problem not been already remedied is 6 plus, and counting unremedied problem debited to the VIP political party leadership led by the current Premier.
However, going forward, proper record keeping of vehicles should be kept on file with all revelant transactions, so that the last owners will be easily identified.
Suggestions:
In my honest opinion that the current administration should be in a rush to push the responsibilities of this problem (direlect vehicle) on the public backs, but should should apologize for its own negligence, and use practical wisdom, rather the pushy political tactics going forward.
In addition, the VIP government should used a pat of $100M load to pay to badged as many as possible, ordered to be dumped in the ocean north, 10 miles or so, of Scrub or Guyana Island, after deoiled, to help in Reef inhance projects.
In other words, leaders should be first to feel the heat of the battle that they quick to push others in.
The devil is never satisfied, unless you, and I let him kick us as a football, daily.
2027 can come fast enuff dread…sick ah dem!
Who is really looking out for the people of this territory?. One government in did nothing to help our people. Doctor allow the insurances and banks to rip off the poople. Doctor met with banks told the people about no payment, don't pay bank giving a break. The bank turn around and rip off its customers. Scotia was no help to there customers. Then they change over to new name the first two to four months change over rip off again.
Back to the subject DMV fee may be a good idea but in my opinión wrong timing. Take into consideration the roads is terrible they are sending everybody in the machanic shops. The money coming out of there pockets not the government.
This government think that people are going to forget the pain these roads cause them. Wake up you all are sleeping hold off a little longer. The people will understand you have to generate funds to keep the territory going but brace for a little longer.
