ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In an effort to improve customer service and reduce time spent at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) motorists are reminded of the proper procedures for vehicle registration.

According to DMV Commissioner, Ms. Lorna Christopher, all vehicles should be registered at the DMV in order to produce an accurate statement of authorisation and vehicle ownership in the Territory.

Ms. Christopher further explained that “drivers must present a driver’s license and a completed original vehicle registration form, which can be obtained at the DMV. The form must be signed by the dealership or seller of the car, and the buyer. For cars that have been imported, an original customs receipt and original T-12 information must be presented.”

Mrs. Christopher also noted that persons who wish to transfer ownership of a vehicle that was previously registered at the DMV will also have to complete relevant forms. “A transfer form must be signed by both parties of the transfer in the presence of a DMV representative or both signatures should be notarised,” she stated.

The completed transfer form must then be submitted with a driver’s license to the Accounts Officer, who will then grant approval.

A vehicle transfer should be completed within seven days of the purchase date of the vehicle.

Vehicle transfers can be carried at the DMV for a fee of $5.00. If the driver of the vehicle does not possess any license plates, then a pair can be purchased for a nominal fee of $25.00

The DMV is located at Pockwood Pond in the R&R Malone Complex and is opened from 9am to 2:30pm for written tests, 9am to 3pm for vehicle inspection and from 9am to 3:30pm for cash transactions Monday to Friday.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is committed to ensuring that all vehicles conforms to appropriate safety standards to enhance road traffic safety territory-wide.

Thanks for helping me understand that both parties have to sign the transfer in the presence of a DMV representative and they will be notarized after. I heard that my brother is planning to sell his car next year to buy a new one. And it seems like he needs to understand the transfer and DMV registration processes once he finds a buyer to do everything legally. https://ezstarsmogoakland.com/dmv-services/
